Updated to the 2001 BIOS from 1801 and booted my computer, my LSI RAID drives were all missing, looked in Device Manager and the LSI 9271 8i was detected as a VROC RAID. Rebooted and the card was now dead, replaced with known working card and same problem, detected as VROC then dead card.
Reverted to 1801 and my final 9271 4i card has been working flawlessly, this is obviously a serious issue killing LSI RAID cards, £60 a go is not funny.
