ArmouryCrate LightingService Handle Leak

Jarsky

I just updated everything on my system, and now the LightingService has a "leak" which is using 4 handles / sec until Windows becomes unresponsive. I'm not sure exactly if it's a change in Windows / BIOS / AuraSync which is causing it, because I updated everything. It will keep going up over 1 million handles until the system eventually runs into Memory Exhaustion errors.

System:
ROG X570 Crosshair VIII Hero (Wi-Fi)
Latest AGESA / BIOS (Updated to BIOS 4702)
Ryzen 9 5950x
Geforce RTX 3080Ti (Latest Nvidia Driver 546.33)
Windows 11 Pro 23H2 22631.2861 (Was 22H2 22621.2861 before having the issue)

Troubleshooting:
DDU and Reinsatlled latest WHQL Nvidia Driver. Also tried 2 older drivers
Reset the UEFI and reconfigured
Updated everything in Armoury Crate

Workaround:
Currently have a script restarting LightingService service (with user SYSTEM) every hour.

bump asus

Having the same issue, LightingService.exe v3.07.33 dated 12/1/2023 just keeps adding new handles at the rate of several per second.  Page file grows, and after a few days the system throws virtual memory exhaustion errors (event 2004) and new apps cannot be launched.

THIS IS A CRITICAL PROBLEM, as it is crashing systems and interfering with launch of other applications.

Mine started at Christmas, if you update all the ArmouryCrate components now are you still having the issue?

There was an update released on Tuesday Feb-6 which fixed it for me.  The update was listed in AC Updates as "ASUS Windows Dynamic Lighting Plug-in, ASUS WDL HAL version 2.7.0.0".  After installing that, lightingservice.exe stopped eating up handles.   On my system, it now stays around 730 handles.

Check here in the "official thread" for more info: ASUS WDL HAL 2.7.0.0

Last weekend I noticed a was still having some quite old versions of asus drivers and amoury crate and also an old bios, so I decided to update everything to the latest version. Now I regret I did. Before everything was working fine, but after updating the out of memory issues started.
Took me the whole weekend to find out what the issue was, initially thinking it might be the bios update. Then found some posts about memory leaks in Armoury Crate. After using the uninstall tool, the memory issues went away.
Then today I found this post.

I have installed both version 3.2.6.1 and version 3.2.9.1 of Armoury Crate installer. It comes with ASUS Windows Dynamic Lighting Plug-in 2.7.0.0.
I'm still getting out of memory, but this only seems to happen when two users a logged in.
I have one admin account for myself, and another standard account. We regularly switch between accounts without logging out. It seems when the standard account is active, the memory keeps increasing.

When I start Amoury Crate under the standard account, it wants to install things, but needs admin password. Installation doesn't work: it keeps trying to reinstall over and over.

I'm thinking of totally removing Armoury Crate for now.
