Armoury Crate not recognizing devices and unable to control RGB

coolingthunder
Level 7
Hi,

Just upgraded to an AMD Ryzen 3700X on a Crosshair VIII WiFi mobo.

Yesterday RGB and armoury crate worked fine.

Had to update BIOS and some general drivers and Armoury crate no longer recognizes my motherboard (this sercice only works with ROG devices or something along those lines) and when I click the AURA button I get the message ''connect at least one aura sync compatible device'') which I have:

-RAM
-mobo
-Thermaltake fans and RGB strips on a Thermaltake Aura Sync hub which worked yesterday just fine

-EKWB velocity rgb waterblock
-Bitspower Aura sync compatible flow indicator

all of these are eiter stuck on red or rainbow unicorn barf.

What is causing this? Have already tried reinstalling, clearing CMOS, safe boot reinstall, CCleaner registry cleaner, manual deletion of remnants I could find, REVOuninstaller,.... nothing works.

Any ideas?

Have also tried installing only AURA SYNC but that doesnt even start saying that the auraservice is not running even though I followed all the guides I could find online for installing that program.

Why does none of this work??????

Hi.

Lets start with me having ROG Strix Z270F Gaming motherboard and ROG Gladius II and ROG Claymore.

IF YOU ARE FACING ISSUES WITH INSTALLING HAL ON DEVICES / DEVICES NOT SHOWING IN AURA SYNC / DEVICE PAGES UNACCESSABLE ONLY YOU SHOULD START TRYING BELOW ON STEP 5 (refer step 4 that Armoury Crate is just installed and unable to install required devices with Settings -> Update Center). I believe that this alone solves these problems and it is not necessary to do full uninstallation and manual registry cleaning.

I have had issues with Asus software before but not anything like this. So about week ago all my RGB were staying on green light and Motherboard leds were dark. Tried to fix this by opening Armoury Crate but I couldn't access any devices there and Aura sync was displaying "no devices found". Tried to uninstall all Asus with regular "Add or remove programs". After this installed Armoury Crate back, but now I was having even more issues. Could not install all parts with Armoury Crate Settings -> Update Center and still not able to open devices.

Started reading these forums and figuring this out. Seems that lot of people still having issues so thought it wouldn't hurt to update here. I managed to get everything working after hours and hours uninstalling and reinstalling and deleting files and deleting Windows registry keys. Now I could do this a lot faster because I would know what to do from the start.

Firstly I learned that leds are actually controlled by mobo chip and not only by the software. I got mobo leds and all RGB stuff back alive after unplugging my PSU for a while. Apparently this resets the chip. Leds went to rainbow setting which is default setting. Made some progress, but I'm still unable to control any of my RGB and unable to access any device page so I'm unable to change mouse DPI and so on.

At this point I started uninstalling Asus apps with Revo uninstaller and messing around with registry. Loooooooong story short I was always unable to fully install Armoury Crate back even after uninstalling with Revo and deleting registry keys.

Here is what I finally did to get everything working perfectly. I should have started with this but I didn't even have smallest clue what I was getting into.

1. Delete everything related to Asus with Revo uninstaller so you can scan registry and files after every part. Delete all registry keys left behind and also delete all folders and files left behind.

2. Start windows in safe mode and delete all Asus folders in Program Files folders and from Programdata and from Appdata etc. I basically deleted all folders saying Asus.

3. Still in safe mode I went through whole registry searching "Asus" (tick the box saying "Match whole string only" so you won't get hit with hundreds of lines including text "RunAsUser") and deleting all keys clearly related to Asus Armoury. I left keys what I thought could be related to something else, mobo information, system info etc. Feel free to delete all lines relating "\Program Files\Asus\" and "ASUS Aura" and "Asus ... HAL" and don't delete anything you are not sure about. There were a lot of these lines and I believe that you don't have to delete all of these but I wanted to make sure that next install would be clean.

4. Restart computer normally, without safe mode. Reinstall latest Armoury Crate. Installation seems to be fine but I'm still unable to install HAL for all my devices.

5. Went to Event Viewer and was reading application log. There I did find what HAL install is actually trying to do and it was apparently failing because devices are still installed somewhere. For example I received lines from source "System Restore" only and nothing from actual installation.

In application log you can find this when installing HAL for Gladius II: "Skipping creation of restore point (Process = C:\WINDOWS\Temp\{866A89E2-597B-4A92-B271-89E6EF7C7269}\.be\AacMouseSetup.exe -q -burn.elevated BurnPipe.{9792DA3A-CAC2-4527-9A43-1B30F7FABDE7} {FF50E302-64DB-457A-9F3E-BBC5182AF51B} 20332; Description = ASUS Mouse HAL) as there is a restore point avaliable which is recent enough for System Restore."

You cannot install this because it exists from previous install.

6. Go into C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\ and search for "AacMouseSetup.exe". You will find a match and start the installer. Since it is already installed the installer will unistall instead.

7. Go back to Armoury Crate and now you can indeed install HAL for device which was failing before.

8. Repeat this to all devices that are failing HAL installation.

9. Enjoy! All devices are visible in Aura sync after restarting Armoury Crate and now you should have access to device pages.

This worked for me and hopefully to someone else too. I'm wondering how this software can be such garbage that users have to do a huge work to uninstall this software. I saw one post saying that Asus is developing Armoury Crate uninstall tool, cant wait for it.

TL;DR Start with step 5, if no luck start from step 1.
I will never buy Asus again. This is not OK.
Hopefully this helps someone.

Guys I battled this problem for so long but finally found the solution! You have to install the programs in order! Corsiar Icue first, reboot, Corsair plug-in, reboot, then lastly install Armoury Crate! Works beautifully! If you already installed the programs UNISTALL them and do it in this order.
Here's a link to Corsiar's website explaining it. Good luck!

How to Fix ROG Aura Sync not seeing other devices :-

Before carrying out this fix remove existing Aura & Aura Service (lightingservice) via control panel,

goto your current lightingservice installer folder, open command prompt in the aac folder (I used LightingService 1.07.60)

The following fix is used if the VGA rgb is not showing as a example, the same fix applies to all missing devices, only the GUID you look for is different and the exe you run,

In command prompt do :-

Follow the screen prompts,
Now if you get a Error when trying to install this is good, it mean this is the cause of the issue.
Open log.txt in a text editor

in log .txt look for detected related package , copy the GUID with out { and } and then load regedit

in regedit edit click CTRL+f for search , paste the first GUID listed as "Detected Related package' in to search ,
Delete each occurrence of that GUID,
When you get to the end do the same with any other GUID listed in log.txt

Once you have removed the GUID install ID's for the hardware not showing repeat the above install procedue with a new log file eg:-

if i was doing Motherboard drivers for example and have already removed the GUID's (example guid 0E536061-3B55-4D45-BF58-0BDA261C94B0 )
I will now re-install the drivers from the same driver pack (eg stick with drivers from one version)

open the new log file and make sure it does not say "Detected related package" anywhere, if it does then repeat the GUID deleting with the listed GUID from the log file, only ones next to "Detected related package" ,

The reason the system cannot find other Aura sync devices is because of mis-matched drivers being installed ,
Version 1.05 and 1.06 don't use this driver method so lightingserver.exe reports the correct hardware but wont accept input from Armoury crate but will from Aura application,

Fix for Blocked Exe warning, cannot uninstall warning
driver version 1.07.22/1.07.35/1.07.35/1.07.57 are not signed so windows will not allow you to run the executable(Do not install these versions) , you will get a blocked file warning,
to fix this :-
Click windows key and type command prompt, right click on command prompt and select run as administrator ,
in prompt type

and then click programs/uninstall programs and then remove Aura and Arua Service

close control panel.

I have been able to apply this fix repeatably to many systems, You have to make sure to remove all the guid's for the drivers in aac folder one by one, once removed you can install that driver pack normally and upgrade normally.

Removing the GUID allows the wix installer to overwrite newer versions with the older one which normally does not happen resulting in mis-matched versions between drivers (the drivers in aac folder not the Lightingserver which talks to those drivers)
Once you have reinstalled your working Aura sync and checked it's showing your devices then you can install armoury crate utility from Asus site.

Couple Of notes:
Once you have removed all the Aac based drivers you can reboot, this should flush lighting service out but I have applied the fix many times without and it functioned right away, no reboot.

You can delete the Lastprofile.xml before installing Aura (which in turn installs lightingservice) , when you install Aura this file should reappear, it's a text file you can open and it should list all your devices found, this is a after effect file and has no bearing on what the system sees so replacing this file with one from a working system fixes nothing, you have to remove & reinstall the aac drivers for versions 1.7.60 and higher to function correctly in Armoury crate ,

Enjoy your Fixed for good Aura Sync/Armoury Crate

@darksr1te,

I have only the Asus MOBO, so I removed mismatches for the MB only. Do I really have to clean each of the entries in the aac folder? Also, the second time around I ran the command, I got an error along the line "cannot install due to system policy", but the log did not show any related package detections. Was that suposed to happen?

I know this process did something right, cause The error message itself was taking minutes to be exhibited, after I ran Aura, but now it runs faster. Still, I did not fix the issue and I get the same error.

I also noticed that, if I install Armory Crate, instead of Aura, The software is unable to update HAL. I get "error code 12".

Is there anything else I can try?

Thanks,

That is no work for me there. I do appreciate your time on it though. Same with Armoury Crate it is a pile of crap and Asus doesn't care to fix it. We shouldn't have to try and fix their crappy software in 2019. They need to hire some decent workers and fire the ones they have had that can't do anything right. I'm tired of trying to defend this bad software.

My Corsair software runs great with no issues. Yet Asus is constant problems over and over. Instead of them trying to patch holes. Just make a totally new one from the ground up.

PISS ON YOU ASUS AND YOUR WORTHLESS SOFTWARE!

Hi

I just had this issue and fixed it as follows:

1. Uninstall ROG Armoury Create
2. Uninstall Asus Aura
3. Restart PC
4. Delete the light control folder in C:\Program Files (x86)\LightingService
5. Install light control https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/14Utilities/Lighting_Control_1.07.79.zip
6. Unsync all your device that are synced. Unsyced devices will show a red broken link under the device.

7. Install Asus ROG Armoury Crate

Hopefully your devices display. Good Luck

I was having the same problem. Deleting the LastProfile.xml and restarting both Armoury Create and its dependent services (Armoury Crate Service and Lighting Service) fixes the problem for me without a reboot. I've had to do this a few times so I whipped up a PowerShell script to do this on the fly:

This method originally worked for me. However, on 4/30/2020 these steps no longer fix an issue I am experiencing. My motherboard is seen on the 'devices' tab but when I click to expand its options Armoury Crate skips through to the addressable headers page & I can not access any other area of my motherboards options. This also means I am unable to control the RGB as my motherboard is not listed on the 'AURA Sync' tab. Please see images below.
