AISuite fails to start after Windows update KB4056892 (Intel vulnerability patch)

PerpetualCycle
Level 13
It fails to start with "The Sever Threw an Exception" Error box.

The services and AISuite executable appears to be actually running, but the AISuite GUI does not start.

Please fix Asus (should have been on top of this I would think).

I can confirm, Rampage IV Formula, after Update kb4073290 (for Build 1709, the Update above is for build 1703 / 1706), no Error at start, AI-Suite II works again. (Did nothing ..never uninstalled, never reinstalled)

What is this update kb4073290 for 1709 ? Im with 1709 build and the windows don't downloading anything else ? So from where I can find kb4073290 ? So, it is working on X79 ?

EDIT:
Oook, nice. KB4073290 working for my Sabertooth X79 + AI Suite II ! But why this update is stand alone installer. It is for some future official Windows 10 build/update pack ?

The Update is new, some Report that it’s available in Auto Update, i guess it Takes a day or two before everyone can see it - or .. possible too, its primary for AMD Users because it fixes the Reboot Problem with AMD CPU‘s.

Im glad it’s working with Suite II, just in case ASUS really says they won‘t Patch it, this is a good WorkAround.

AI Suite III from 2015 works again on my Maximus VII (Z97) Formula after the KB4073290 patch

Had the same problem with KB4056892 + AI Suite 2, but downloaded and installed windows10.0-kb4073290 (http://download.windowsupdate.com/c/msdownload/update/software/updt/2018/01/windows10.0-kb4073290-x6...) has BECOME ALL WORK WELL! I have asus h61m-K (Intel) AISuite_II VER20401

I did KB4073290 installation manually, and it did install the fix.
However, I doubt it's actual fix, here's why :
Before :
After :
^Based on that, I think we still need BIOS update for this to work like it should.
So, installing this working KB4073290 patch alone, doesn't change status of old CPUs vs. Meltdown (sadly).
Last but not least : I don't have to install KB4056892 patch (Win Update says, system is fully updated), and AI Suite II does indeed still work - so at least something worth celebrating 🙂

@wunjox Enable Test mode for Windows (from admin cmd command prompt), and after reboot, try to run AI Suite II installer "as admin".

Can also confirm that installing KB4073290 on my Windows 10 (1709) resolved Ai Suite II not loading on my Sabertooth Z77. Very odd that a KB with only a changelog of "AMD devices fall into an unbootable state" corrected this issue. I did not uninstall/reinstall Ai Suite II (I just left it broken) until reading comments here with respect to the above KB.

OK, so we are back to AI Suite II and III working on ASUS motherboard - this is good news, we are back to a state that we where prior to 3rd January 2018.

What the PowerShell scripts appear to be telling us is:

1. Microsoft have delivered patches to support Intel, AMD firmware updates which have not yet been delivered by the hardware manufacturer INTEL\AMD -> ASUS.
2. Microsoft have delivered their part to mitigate the OS.

We now need to wait for hardware OEM's to deliver BIOS\UEFI updates that include the final part to offer protection from Meltdown\Spectre for each Motherboard. This will be a test of ongoing support for the ASUS brand and we hope that ASUS will make public the roadmap for customers with security risk exposure.

In summary
1. Microsoft has delivered the OS part of the Meltdown\Spectre requirements.
2. Microsoft appear to have resolved the ASUS AI Suite compatibility with a manually downloadable update (although they to not specify anything other than a fix for machines that will not boot).
3. Machines are not currently protected from Meltdown\Spectre until a firmware update is delivered by the OEM (ASUS in this case).

The above is our analysis of the current position and welcome corrections and comments where required.

ASUS
How will owners of ASUS motherboards be notified when a firmware update will be available? AI Suite for example has been broken for a long time in relation to connecting to your servers for Firmware and Software updates. Our main concern is that the public generally thinks that they are protected once they applied the Microsoft Security Updates resulting in a false sense of security from Meltdown and Spectre faults.

Download latest beta of AI Suite II, and try doing this :
In the drvresource folder right-click on HMservice/aaHMIns.exe and AXSP/axinst.exe and change the compatibility for all users to run as administrator.
Of course all done in Test mode, and after that run setup exe as admin.
If you had AI Suite II installed, you may need to use AI Suite II Cleaner : LINK
