For months and months now I've booted into Windows 7. Everything comes up and loads in less than 20secs, Then the Icons on my desktop would rebuild, No big deal but it was giving me the S**Ts. I finally decided to delve into my registry.

A simple DWord addition and I fixed it. Not sure if others are having this problem but if you are, and want to know how. just ask.

Better still, this is what I did.

Run REGedit command and go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

Right click on Explorer-Create a New- Dword and call it "Max Cached Icons' without hyphens.

Modify the command and give it a Hexi value of 4096. Log off and reboot.

I think the value you give it is the key, I tried other values without success.

Always save a restore point before making changes to Registry.

Once you get your icons where you want them, right click on an open area on the desktop and click refresh. Your icons will now stay where you put them.
