The ASUS motherboard framework updates are causing my usb 3.0 NAS enclosure to mimick sleepmode functions.
This is most probably affecting you too.
It has been a complete nightmare diagnosing this problem and as usual it would happen to be an ASUS software that is causing the problem.
When this first occured I spent 18 hours diagnosing the issue, until i tried to run the NAS on another windows system. once i realized it was not the NAS enclosure itself I immediately reinstalled my Windows OS and returned the NAS to the originally affected system, now the NAS was no longer mimicking a sleep mode or spinning down the HDDs automatically.
I have been happy with the results up until I reinstalled the ASUS Armory Crate and the NAS spindown reoccured, as this was not happening beforehand I decided to uninstall the ASUS Armory Crate software and updates and VOILA the NAS enclosure no longer mimicks a sleep mode state and I can continue using the additional storage without pause or system hang ups!
I hope this helps you who also face unnecessary hard drive downtime and crashing whilst accessing your media from external disks.
