HELP: Armoury Crate suspected to cause blue screen

Jaavvy
Level 7

MB:  Rog strix z790-f

BIOS version: 2801

CPU: i7-14700KF

Memory: Trident Z DDR5 6400hz

Got several blue screen and PC restarted in game. Occurs once daily in the past week. Initially suspected to be caused by Intel's 14th gen. Run the CPU dignostic tool and all tests passed. Check the event viewer and found a crash report with DMP files. Analyzed  the DMP file with WinDBG and captured the following information:

“IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (0xA)”
“Probably caused by: cpuz158_x64.sys”
“Failure Bucket ID: AV_cpuz158_x64!unknown_function”
Process Name: asus_framework

Now it is highly suspected that the hardware monitor plugin (cpuz158) of Armoury Crate is causing the issue. So I did a clean unistall and reinstall of Armoury Crate yesterday, it seems not to solve the issue. The blue screen still occured twice today. Every firmware and driver in the system is up to date

Please help with any solution.

It would be news to me that ArmouryCrate (current version 6.1.13.0) uses CPU_Z as a hardware monitoring plugin.

Your cpuz158 x64.sys is also very outdated.

CPU_Z is a separate tool and is now at version 2.15, and it doesn't come from Asus.

There's only a version with the ROG theme (version 2.14). But that's it.

So, this outdated version of CPU_Z seems to be causing problems for you.

Check Start/Settings/Apps/Installed Apps and uninstall the outdated CPU_Z and use the latest version.

The "cpuz158_x64.sys" is a driver for CPU_Z and therefore does not belong to ArmouryCrate.
The DPM files should also indicate where this file is located.
A service may also have been installed for it.
Stop everything and remove it.
This file seems to cause problems frequently under Windows if you search for it using Google.

I searched my PC for this file and did NOT find it, even though I installed CPU_Z version 2.15 and ArmouryCrate version 6.1.13.0.
But I also couldn't find it in version 5.9.14.0 (I have a backup here).

Intel Core i7 13700K / AiO Fractal Design Lumen S36 v2 RGB / Asus Rog Strix Z790-F Gaming WIFI / Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR5-5600 64GB (4x 16GB) / Asus TUF RTX 5070 Ti OC / 4x Samsung 980 pro 1TB / Seasonic Prime GX 850 W Gold / Fractal Design Meshify 2 Lite RGB Black TG Light Tint / Monitor AOC Q27G2S/EU (WQHD)

Im sure this is the plugin used by Armoury Crate to monitor the hardware, when you open the control panel in Armoury Crate, you will be able to see your cpu information, that has to be monitored using a cpuz plug in. Also, I found the file in C:\Windows\Temp (cpuz158). I was trying to delete the file but it doesn't allow me to do so until I uninstall the armoury crate, meaning the Temp file is created by Armoury Crate. I don't have CPUZ app installed on my PC. It won't be surprise to me armoury crate uses a really old verison of it, rn i can't have it updated in my end cuz its integrated into the app, that's why im seeking help here

What version of AC are you using? AC no longer uses CPU-Z as far as I'm aware, and uses ASXP for monitoring data.

9800X3D / 6400 CAS 28 / ROG X870 Crosshair / TUF RTX 4090

AC is up to date. I uninstalled it and the problem seems solved. I used Process Monitor and AC does read cpuz158 from the windows registry and writes it to c:\windows\temp file
