Aura Service 3.08.59 breaks lighting (LightingService.exe crash)

shadowlock
Level 8

System:

  • Windows 11 Pro (x64)

  • Armoury Crate 6.3.4.0

  • TUF GAMING X870E-PLUS WIFI7 motherboard

  • Aura Service 3.08.59

    Issue:
After today’s Aura Service update (3.08.59), all RGB lighting stopped working: fans, motherboard. Armoury Crate’s Aura Sync shows no devices.

    What I tested:

    • Uninstalled Aura Service → reboot → all lights worked again (default rainbow).

    • Armoury Crate detected Aura Service missing and reinstalled 3.08.59.

    • Immediately after reinstall, all lights turned off.

    • After reboot, Windows starts, LightingService.exe runs → lights turn off again

Faulting application name: LightingService.exe, version: 3.8.59.0
Faulting module name: AacHal_x86.dll, version: 1.0.0.19
      Exception code: 0xc00000fd
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\LightingService\LightingService.exe
      Faulting module path: C:\Program Files\FEIHUI\Aac_ZEERAY Hal\AacHal_x86.dll

      Application 'C:\Program Files\ASUS\AacAmbientHal\AacAmbientLighting.exe'
cannot be restarted - Application SID does not match Conductor SID.

Aura Service 3.08.59 appears to be a bad build — uninstalling restores default firmware RGB, reinstalling breaks it again.

      Request:
Can ASUS confirm this is a known issue? Is there an ETA for a fixed Aura Service release?
Other users: please check your Aura Service version (Settings → Apps → Installed apps → Aura Service) and see if 3.08.59 causes the same behavior.

Edit / Update:
I first renamed the whole Aac_ZEERAY Hal folder and that fixed the Aura Service crashes, but it also broke access to some device pages in Armoury Crate.

After more testing, I found you only need to rename these two files inside that folder:
C:\Program Files\FEIHUI\Aac_ZEERAY Hal\AacHal_x86.dll to AacHal_x86.dll.bak
C:\Program Files\FEIHUI\Aac_ZEERAY Hal\AacHal_x64.dll to AacHal_x64.dll.bak

With just those DLLs renamed, Aura Service no longer crashes, lights work normally, and Armoury Crate device pages still load fine.

Check if this path is correct and the specified folders exist:
Faulting module path: "C:\Program Files\FEIHUI\Aac_ZEERAY Hal\AacHal_x86.dll"
and the file "AacHAl_x86.dll" is present.
If not, then you've found the error, because without this DLL file from these folders, the lighting service can't work.

I also use RGB, but I only have ArmouryCrate installed (without Aura Creator), and everything works perfectly.
I set Aura Sync to "Smart," which controls the colors based on temperature, and that works.
But I don't have these folders (FEIHUI" and "Aac_ZEERAY Hal"). This may be because you have different RGB hardware installed.

It would therefore be helpful to post a screenshot from ArmouryCrate and the list of your RGB devices here.

Intel Core i7 13700K / AiO Fractal Design Lumen S36 v2 RGB / Asus Rog Strix Z790-F Gaming WIFI / Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR5-5600 64GB (4x 16GB) / Asus TUF RTX 5070 Ti OC / 4x Samsung 980 pro 1TB / Seasonic Prime GX 850 W Gold / Fractal Design Meshify 2 Lite RGB Black TG Light Tint / Monitor AOC Q27G2S/EU (WQHD)

Thank you for your response, Verified that the file "AacHAl_x86.dll" is present. At the correct path you mentioned.

Attached screenshot from ArmouryCrate. (i do have Aura Creator as well...)

and here is the list of all the components:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D, 16 cores / 32 threads, 5.7 GHz

CPU Cooler: ASUS ROG Strix LC III 360 ARGB AIO (White)

Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming X870E-PLUS WIFI, 16+2 power stages

Memory (RAM): G.SKILL 64 GB kit (2 × 32 GB) DDR5-6000, Trident Z Royal EXPO, Silver, CL28

SSD (System Drive): Samsung 990 Pro, 4TB+2TB, PCIe 4.0, 7450 MB/s

Graphics Card: ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 5090D OC, 32 GB

Case: Lian Li O11D EVO RGB, White

Power Supply: Seasonic Vertex GX-1200, 1200 W, 80+ Gold, ATX 3.0 (White)

Case Fans / Accessories: Jonsbo RGB 360 kit (2 × reverse + 1 × standard fan, White)

I also had it set to "Smart" based on temp, and everything was working great.
than, at night i saw windows doing some sneaky hidden updates.. confirmed with  eventvwr.msc that it automatically updated Aura Service to 3.08.59 , and after it finished the update, the lights just went down. and the errors kept coming.

so this update is most definitely the culprit.

Do you use Aura Creator, or did you just install it because it was offered?
RGB also works WITHOUT Aura Creator.
At least for me, everything works as it should with the latest updates.

Try uninstalling Aura Creator (not the Lighting Service), but just the Aura Creator software.
It should work via Start/Settings/Apps.

Then restart your PC and open Armoury Crate once. Check if your RGB devices still appear under "Aura Sync." Then check if your "SMART" RGB setting is still active under "Aura Effects."
You don't need "Aura Creator" for "SMART," as the colors are predefined and cannot be changed.
If it works properly again, it's due to Aura Creator, not Armoury Crate itself.

Hi inge70,

Just wanted to say a BIG thanks — your detailed component list actually helped me track down the problem with my Aura Service crash. I noticed you didn’t have the ZEERAY Hal module installed, while my system did. After renaming that folder, my Aura Service stopped crashing and everything works again.

So your post directly led me to the solution — really appreciate you sharing your setup! 🙏

🚨 Fix for Aura Service 3.08.59 Crash (LightingService.exe) – Caused by ZEERAY HAL

Hi everyone,

I was struggling with Aura Service (LightingService.exe) 3.08.59 constantly crashing. My RGB lights would all turn off as soon as Windows loaded, and Armoury Crate couldn’t detect any devices in Aura Sync.
The crash wasn’t Aura Service itself — it was ZEERAY Hal causing it.

The fix that worked for me:

  1. Go to this folder: C:\Program Files\FEIHUI\Aac_ZEERAY Hal\

  2. Rename the folder to something else, e.g. → Aac_ZEERAY Hal_backup.
(Don’t delete it, just rename so you can restore later if needed.)

  3. Restart the Armoury Crate Aura Sync (LightingService) service, or reboot Windows.

    🎉 Result

    • Aura Service no longer crashes.

    • Armoury Crate now sees all devices again (motherboard, GPU, RAM, fans, etc.).

    • I can fully control the RGB lighting.

⚠️ Note

  • The ZEERAY Hal module seems unnecessary for my system (and many others).

  • If your logs show AacHal_x86.dll as the crash point, this is likely the culprit.

  • ASUS should probably review this HAL module, since removing it solves the problem.

Hopefully this helps anyone else who got stuck after the Aura Service 3.08.59 update!

Edit / Update:
I first renamed the whole Aac_ZEERAY Hal folder and that fixed the Aura Service crashes, but it also broke access to some device pages in Armoury Crate.

After more testing, I found you only need to rename these two files inside that folder:
C:\Program Files\FEIHUI\Aac_ZEERAY Hal\AacHal_x86.dll to AacHal_x86.dll.bak
C:\Program Files\FEIHUI\Aac_ZEERAY Hal\AacHal_x64.dll to AacHal_x64.dll.bak

With just those DLLs renamed, Aura Service no longer crashes, lights work normally, and Armoury Crate device pages still load fine.
