This has been happening for a long time - years, possibly.
Shutdowns should be pretty quick (under 10 seconds), but instead are taking 25-30 seconds.
I have verbose startup/shutdown messages on, and it seems to get stuck for over 20 seconds on Shutting down service: AsusUpdateCheck
Checking Event Viewer, under Windows Logs > System, at every shutdown, I have an event ID 7043 saying
The AsusUpdateCheck service did not shut down properly after receiving a pre-shutdown control.
It's becoming quite annoying having to wait for this every time I shut down my PC, and you can't disable or delete it, as it just comes back again.

Since Windows 10, Startup items have been moved from msconfig to Task Manager - and there's no ASUS application listed there.

It is enough to disable the automatic installation of armory crate in the motherboard bios.
