Armoury Crate Aura Sync/Windows Dynamic Lighting issue

AshenPaladin

I have already reported it in the thread with the form, but it's been stuck on "processing" for over a month, I thought I'd also make a specific thread for it, even just so that it can maybe help confirm whether this is an actual software bug or an issue with my specific device.

Basically, every time when I turn on my laptop, there is a 50/50 chance that the Aura Sync section within Armoury Crate will falsely show that my laptop's keyboard (an ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 GA403UI) is controlled by Windows Dynamic Lighting. I am saying that it shows this falsely because if I go to my laptop's lighting settings within Armoury Crate, and disable Aura Sync there, it allows me to control the lighting of the keyboard with no interference from Windows Dynamic Lighting.

This is separate then from another issue that might still be connected to it and that has been reported by other people, in which the Armoury Crate software continues to display a big "Your device is controlled by Windows Dynamic Lighting" image over the laptop's keyboard lighting settings, despite Armoury Crate being given the priority in Windows Settings.

Turning off Windows Dynamic Lighting then is only a solution for this later problem, because for some reason Armoury Crate and Aura Sync require Windows Dynamic Lighting to be turned on in order to use Aura Sync for the keyboard. The only solution is to reboot, and most often rebooting does allow Armoury Crate to correctly allow Aura Sync to control the keyboard, but even that doesn't work always. Sometimes, besides from a reboot, I need to manually restart the ASUS AURA SYNC lighting service, but sometimes even that doesn't work and I just have to keep rebooting the laptop until it eventually works again.

This isn't an issue specific to Armoury Crate V6, because it has been an issue ever since I got my laptop in early February 2025, so it's been an issue since at least 5.7.6.0. And Armoury Crate in general has been having issues with Aura Sync since Windows Dynamic Lighting was launched, I remember having somewhat similar issues back on my desktop PC with ASUS peripherals.

I know that the Armoury Crate bugs thread is the proper way to report bugs, but if there are any other people who have been encountering this issue could confirm it it would be helpful, it's been driving me insane and I'd like at the very least to know if this is a software bug or something wrong with my particular device.

It's persisted despite several clean Windows reinstalls, and it's also been persistent on both Windows 11 Pro 23H2 and 24H2.

It might be a bit too early to confirm, but I believe that the update to Armory Crate version 6.3.4.0 might have solved this. Now, it might be a bit too early to tell, I will wait for a few more days before marking it as solved, but ever since I've updated I haven't had any situations in which the bug would present itself - Aura Sync has been working after every restart so far.

So if there's other people who have been having this issue, I'd recommend updating and checking.

So it's a larger issue beyond just laptops. And it might also be that it was, last year, also an issue with my ASUS ROG Strix TKL Wireless Deluxe. I do remember having encountered similar issues, but I thought that it might just be a case of me misremembering things, and projecting my current issue onto my past memories of ASUS peripherals.

I'm not sure what to say though. I would recommend that you at least try to report it over on the Armory Crate bug reporting thread, following the instructions, here , but I honestly have no expectations. It's been five months since I reported it, and it's still only marked as "Processing", and it's also been a month since I posted this current thread and there's been no communication, not even from the forum staff. It seems to me that it's just not a priority for them.

I also considered reporting it as an issue to ASUS Support directly, but based on my prior interactions with them, they will likely suggest that I send my laptop to them to check - which I obviously won't do for what's a software bug.

And ultimately for me, if I restart the computer, it usually starts working, but as I describe in the post, it's like a 50/50 gamble each time I boot my PC on whether it works or not.

Sadly it's not working...

Are you sure that Armory Crate is given priority over Windows Dynamic Lighting in the Windows 11 settings?

After the update, I had to go back to settings and drag Armory Crate back to the top because the update had placed it under Dynamic Lighting.

You could also perhaps check your keyboard's support page on the ASUS website for any firmware updates? There have been in the past instances for me where the keyboard firmware wouldn't update automatically through Armory Crate.

If this doesn't work, maybe you could use the ASUS provide tool to uninstall Armoury Crate, and install it again? It worked from the beginning of the update for me, but who knows.

And if all of this doesn't work, could you go into the Armory Crate settings and share the service version numbers? Maybe there's a module or something that didn't update for you. For me it's:
Item Version
---- -------
Armoury Crate UWP App 6.3.4.0
ROG Live Service 3.3.8.0
Aura Service (Lighting Service) 3.08.59
Armoury Crate service 6.3.4.0
Aura Wallpaper Service 2.1.7.0
Aura SDK 3.05.13
ArmouryDevice 4.2.4.7
ASUS Aac_GmAcc HAL 1.0.12.0
ASUS Aac_NBDT HAL 2.5.52.0
ASUS Ambient HAL 7.4.0.0
ASUS Mouse HAL 1.2.1.22
MainSDK 2.01.45
MouseSDK 3.01.48
UnifyDongleSDK 1.00.10
Armoury Crate Plugin - Mouse 2.4.3
Armoury Crate Plugin - UnifyDongle 0.1.1
AI Noise Cancelation Audio Software 4.0.7
Aura Wallpaper HTML 2.1.7.0
ROG CustomHotkey 1.2.3
ROG KERIS WIRELESS AIMPOINT 4.05.25
ROG KERIS WIRELESS AIMPOINT (2.4G) 4.05.25
ROG KERIS WIRELESS AIMPOINT (BLE) 4.05.25
ROG OMNI RECEIVER 4.02.03
Xbox360 Controller Emulator 1.0.0.13

And if all of this doesn't work, report it directly to ASUS support. It might be that the update only fixed the issue for the integrated keyboard RGB of my laptop.

can you help me, i’ve been dealing with the same issue as yours, im using asus rog strix g16 g614pr that i bought 1 week ago, i’ve updated the armoury crate to the 6.3.4.0 version, i just found out the issue today, and i need a solution, what should i do?

For me at the very least, on a Zephyrus G14 GA403UI, the issue has been solved following the update to 6.3.4.0

My only advice would be the same that I've given to the other user in this thread. Make sure that Armoury Crate is given priority over Dynamic Lighting in Windows settings - immediately after the update, it had reverted and put Dynamic Lighting back on the first place.

Then, if you go to Armoury Crate, if you to settings, about, check service version, you can see a list of all the installed modules and their version. If you could, check them against mine - see if we have the same version on things, particularly when it comes to Aura Service (Lighting Service).

If we do, and the issue still isn't fixed, you could use the ASUS provided uninstall tool to uninstall Armoury Crate completely and install it again, but I'm not sure that would fix it. It never fixed it for me before the update to 6.3.4.0, and ever since that update I did fully reinstall Windows once and Aura Sync continued to work, so I don't think it has any effect.
But if this doesn't work either,  if you go to this thread, it's the thread were you can report bugs. Follow the instructions in the OP and report it. But at the same time, I'd recommend directly contacting the ASUS Support in your country and also giving them a bug report. Both issues that I've had with Armoury Crate and with MyASUS were only fixed after the ASUS Support rep that I was talking with shared the bug report/after a community rep here asked me for logs. My bug report to that thread is still marked as "Processing" despite having been solved, and despite a report made four weeks ago of the same issue that I shared being marked as "Fixed in 6.3.4". Still, it's worth making a report there too.

But from the fact that this other guy in the bugs reporting thread had the same issue and is marked as "resolved" I'm thinking that ASUS did indeed intend for the 6.3.4.0 update to have resolved the issue, and it's highly unusual for it to still not work for you.

I tried moving armoury crate to the top of the priority list in Dynamic Lighting, but as soon as I leave the settings page and re-enter it is on the bottom of the list. Which means that Aura Sync can not work on my ROG Strix Scope II 96 Wireless, which is all I want from it. Incredibly annoying. I already tried reinstalling Armoury Crate, did not change anything. You have similar problems or no?

I had similar issues in that Windows Dynamic Lighting was overriding Armoury Crate yes, but in my case, it wasn't changing the order in the settings, it was taking over despite Armoury Crate remaining as the first option. Could your issue also be caused by interference from Gigabyte's app? I'm not sure, I only have ASUS products and only Armoury Crate installed.

Your issue seems pretty similar to the one that I've seen in this thread down to that guy also having Gigabyte software installed. It doesn't seem that the solutions in the thread actually helped that user, but they might be worth a shot trying for you too, particularly the one about the registry.

Does the Gigabyte software suit have any RGB lighting components? If it does, you could try to turn that component off, see if it makes any difference.

Also, for when you tried to reinstall Armoury Crate, did you uninstall it using the software tool that ASUS provides for the uninstall?
