I'm having a serious problem with my graphics card with my Rampage IV Extreme. I have an Asus Radeon HD 7970 DirectCUII graphics card and I was testing it for the first time. My system won't post, the screen just stays black, and the mobo LED reads "62". I initially installed it in the 1st pcie slot but then I tested it in the 3rd one to see if it would work there and I still ran into the same problem. I decided to leave the card back in the 1st slot and temporarily turn off the pcie lane via the pcie on/off switches. I took my Radeon HD 4650 from an older build and installed it in an available pcie slot and it worked just fine. The system posted. I reached the bios screen and even installed Windows successfully. However, even when I leave both video cards in and I turn the 1st pcie lane back on, I run into the same problem where the system won't boot and it says "62" on the LEDs. I also noticed that the VGA LED stays lit up on the motherboard whenever I try using the 7970, indicating some kind of problem.
Maybe the GPU is bad? I'm wondering if there's any way to save this card and get it working. The two green lights on the video card are on and it powers on just fine. Fans spin and everything. I doubt it has to do with a power inadequacy problem. I connected two 6+2 pcie power connectors directly to the card. I occupied both the 8-pin and 4-pin power slots on the motherboard but didn't occupy the 6-pin power slot that's in between the four DIMM slots on the left and the onboard audio IO. I decided to plug it in to see if that would fix the issue but it didn't make a difference. I really hope to get this card working. I've already tried re-seating and rebooting it multiple times.
