Sqaure-like artifacts on stock clock speeds? Asus 7970 Matrix Plat.

Been having some problems with my newly purchased 7970 matrix. I keep getting some square-like artifacts on stock clock speeds and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions before I end up RMA'ing it. Below are a few screen shots I took showing what i mean by square-like artifacts.

15876
15877
15878

As you can see, they can get quite annoying and im not sure it thats actually my GPU thats causing that or somthing else.
I've tried using the 12.10 drivers as well as the 12.11 drivers but the artifacts still appear.

System Specs:
CPU: i5-3570k (@3.4GHz)
Mobo: MSI Z77A-GD65
GPU: Asus 7970 Matrix Platinum
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB)
SSD: SanDisk 240GB
PSU: Kingwin 1000Watt

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

I checked 280x Matrix and confirm that 4 chips are left uncooled too. Didn't had this issue, tho. Probably becasue undervolted card a little.

Yes it's only 1x7970 Matrix P. 850W must be enough. I've tried 2 different, brand new PSUs, so I think it's not the PSU.

My card also gives me artifacting as yours, but only if I overclock too much. Stock speeds and GPU Tweak gaming profile never gives me artifacts.

VSync in diablo III is a pain and also playing with vsync starts lagging when there's a lot of enemies & effects. When I disable Vsync card's LED indicator turnes red for most of the time and I can see horrible stuttering. If Vsync enabled it's dark blue / purple sometimes. Playing in 2560x1440.

Safe moding now has random behaviour. I've noticed that if I connect only one monitor with DP 1.2 cable it turnes on after post (windows login screen). If both monitors are connected (second one with normal DP cable) it turnes on just after PC is turned on (as soon as post).

One more thing is that if I have two monitors and I change GPU Tweak settings, when I click apply, only one monitor (connected with normal DP) flickers. DP 1.2 monitor is not flickering when changing GPU/memory clocks.

just wondering, how about if you try plugging one of your monitor via dvi slot instead? like main monitor on first dvi slot (closest) and then the dp slot for secondary monitor (both slots are the ones closest to motherboard),

also, if you notice the super small switch just next to crossfirex slot, switch it to the right (further away fromm crossfire slot),
because thats intended for multi monitors (switch it while power is off btw) and screen refresh rate will be capped to 60hz for each monitors.

oh wow, finally I'm able to login to this forum!! took forever, I have a Matrix 7970 P , I get some artifacts when I push it hard enough even at 100% fan, 1300mhz and memory at 1710mhz, I would definitely check on those 4 rams that are not covered that very well could be the source of all the issues with these cards. I held on to mine even though when I got had a lot of problems with Artifacts on DX9 games

I too have this issue. Getting artefacts at stock speeds. Weird thing is, sometimes when I quit the game, and relaunch it, it works fine.

Well, because it's RAM? 🙂

took my card apart and those Vram completely exposed, I sorted through some of my old videocards and found a heatsink that fits perfectly, gotta buy some thermal tape and sand it down to be able to install the cooler back on; hopefully that helps the temperatures on the ram. On another note, it seems like they made the same mistake on the 280X Matrix, someone confirmed that the 4 dimms are exposed on the overclock.net forums.

Before I had ek FC blocks on my matix plats. I couldn't OC the mem much higher than 6800Mhz. With the FC blocks I can OC them way higher.

The VRM's that feed the mem are placed in the top right corner near the I/O ports, where the airflow probably is very poor. That might be the problem.

Try cranking the fan all the way to 100% and se if mem will go higher.

- I've connected Dell U2312HM monitor to DVI closest to the mobo
- Dell U2713HM to DP 1.2 (with DP 1.2 cable) to DP closest to the mobo
- Bios switch is set to U3
- GPU scaling is disabled in Catalyst for both monitors
- DVI catalyst settings for smaller Dell monitor are not seleted (lower freq. => off, alternative mode => off), Catalyst 13.11.

Now the smaller monitor still flickers when I change GPU Tweak settings and click 'apply'.
Matrix started in safe mode, so I recovered it, but after another shutdown it returned to safe mode again.

EDIT: I've then connected only 23'' Dell monitor with DVI and GPU started with blue leds without recovery and switching off the PSU.

When changing GPU Tweak settings now, it's not flickering.

I've then started Diablo III (1920x1080 60Hz, vsync off, fps limited to 60) but the framerate was max 30fps!
I've turned the Catalyst GPU scaling ON and I have 60FPS. Is this normal behaviour?
