Hello guys. i have matrix 290x and i have problem with this card.

In games card is very loud and in some games card going more than 94 Celcius and down clock (throttling). The easest way to saw it is run FurMark and bench card.

In FurMark even with 100% Fan speed card going more than 94 grades.

In my case i have 5x120mm fans and it doesnt help.

The shop where card was buy say that its not a problem and i should talk with ASUS.

I have the same problem like this man in this video:

I become mad when similar problem happen to me but not worth to lose nerves because graphic card.
Your card is obvious not good with these temps. On 70-80% fan speed temperature can't pass 80C...
Could be 78-82C depend from situation...
You need to contact store where you bought card, that's fastest solution.
If they not help you, and they need to accept RMA, that's their duty. Where you live?
On my GeForce temperature know to reach 85C with 75-80% fan speed, but when I open side panel she drop for
12-15C, and CPU temp increase for 5-6C and when I open side panel drop as well.
Because of that only solution for such situation is watercooling.
But you have different problem because you say even with open panel temps are still high,
my rapidly drop after 2-3 min.

Did you check over net... maybe someone have similar problem...
I found one guy here, he RMA and new card work on much much lower temperatures...

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2483070/asus-290x-matrix-platinum-insane-temperatures-load....

But very often problem is thermal paste, only you shouldn't open your card if you are not advanced user.
And other people notice higher temperatures but that's AMD design and higher temps are lower than yours.
85C is not disaster if you keep inside closed case and temp stay on 85C...
But can't go up and without side panel should drop.

I will follow to see what happen with your problem.
Good luck, I hope everything will be fine and you will play on nice Matrix.
That's good card, that would be my first target for Radeon or Strix for R9-390X and special 980Ti Matrix.

And I sometimes say I will not buy this or that as you but after some time, few hours I'm not angry any more.
Now I would like to build whole ASUS PC with EKWB parts. I mean motherboard, graphic card, sound card from ASUS.

I know what you mean.

I will contact with seller and we will see what he will do.

The Asus factory sometimes puts far too much or far too little TIM on their heatsinks and coolers. On ROG laptops, ROG motherboards, ROG GPU cards. You paid a premium for that Asus warranty so don't be shy about sending defective units back for RMA servicing/replacement. Or warranty be damned just do a complete re-paste with a premium TIM yourself, whether or not you install an upgraded cooling system.

I would reinstall TIM but I afraid if service notice they will not accept RMA because he open card.
Because of that better to give them, if paste make problem or cooler is not installed well they will fix.

I decide to stay with this card and do something with it on my own. I spend too much nervous writing to shop, asus. And vision that i will have not card for few weeks ... nah ...

I will replace tim on my own with gelid gc-extreme, but in this month i have not too much time.

now when im plaing i try to not treat card to the limit with set settings that game stay on 60 fps with vsync always and card stay with 85-88 celcius.

Thanks for your time guys

I come to see what happen with your R9-290X Matrix...
I see some new moments... you improve cooling of chip removing plastic shield?
If you install paste nicely you can get 5C lower temps or more if paste is not installed properly.

I'm glad because you keep Matrix, that's nice card and with Sapphire you will have only more headache, immediately or after some time.
And warranty is 2 years.
This is my fan profile, you can try with him, if you don't like than back on your...
Because no one keep fan on Auto.

For me is really weird that you resolve problem removing shroud...
But OK, anyway much better than waiting RMA.

ASUS completely forget to launch R9-390X 8GB Matrix.
That would be nice solution for replacing R9-290X Matrix in stores.

Yeah im suprise too.

I see that u find too that on 35% fan speed, card is enough quite :]

When i will have some question or i will change TMU i will write.

Thank you very much for help ! 🙂

No, I set 35% because I must see difference from custom and Auto fan profile in idle.
If I set 30-31% I will not recognize fan profile and could forget to turn before gaming.
