Hi all, I'm very new to crossfire and need some advice please, I'm running 2 R9 290x DirectCU II OC in (XDMA).The problem is when I turn on crossfire the fans on the bottom or 2nd card turn off completely. and only come on when playing games.
is that normal?. Without crossfire both cards have fans running in sync.
Cheers for advice.

If you ramp the fan up manually via GPU Tweak, does that turn the fans on? Since it's Asus DCU cards I assume GPU Tweak is the software to use, you van manually set fans on both cards using that software.

Hi, when GPU Tweak is installed all fans on both cards run in sync, crossfire or not. Is this because GPU Tweak runs in 3D mode ?.

Mine never turn "off" but they do spin at different rates. My understanding is the card in slot #1 does the most work so runs warmer therefor the fan spins faster. Other gpu's in the line are used only when needed and as much as needed so they don't get as warm so the fans will spin slower. When the gpu's are at idle the fans will spin at their minimum rates so that's the only time they should spin in "sync" as you put it.

Think I've found the answer (Ultra-Low Power State), if you have a second card, disabling this second card when not needed, in a nut shell saving energy. It's recommended on other forums having a CrossFireX setup it is always better to disable the ULPS and yes It's done the job.
Cheers all.
