Hey guys, as Drogean mentioned earlier Changing from Top Vbios to regular non Top version does trick! it worked on both my Asus Directcu ii 280x tops. Here is what i did to not only fix also overclocked it to 1.1ghz 1600mhz ram works just fine.
Anyone with this video card having artifact issues, here is your fix!
FIRST: (Steps 1 & 2 might no be needed after Vbios downgrade but i did it anyway)
Removed the heatsink, cleared all traces of thermal paste from the GPU and re-applied.
SECOND:
Purchased an Akasa Thermal gap filler (5mm)
http://www.akasa.com.tw/update.php?t...model=AK-TT300One piece of this will cover two adjacent VRAMs, for the ones that are in an angle you should cut it in half.
My thought was that the VRAMs have a very small surface to dissipate the heat. So with this thermal gap filler you increase the surface that the heat is dissipated to by a large factor. Since the 5mm Thermal Pad is made from silicone elastomer it is not hard and will be compressed by the heatsink even in the places that there is only a 2mm gap! Be carefull to tighten the heatsink screws in a diagonal fashion.
THIRD:
Downgraded the BIOS of the card to the R9280X-DC2-3GD5 BIOS (Stock GPU 1000 / VRAM 1500)
BIOS:
http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/1...-130828-1.htmlATIWINFLASH:
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads...inflash-2-6-7/Procedure:
1. Make a folder in your C: drive (eg ATIBIOS)
2. Using GPU-Z save your current BIOS to the folder you just made (click the icon next to the BIOS Version window)
3. Save the BIOS you downloaded from the link above to the folder you just made
4. Extract the files from the ati_winflash_2.6.7.zip to the same folder
5. Open a command prompt as an Administrator (Right click "Run As Administrator")
6. Type the following commands:
cd c:\{folder name}
atiwinflash -f -p 0 Asus.R9280X.3072.130828_1.rom (if you have more than one card you should change the number after the "p": 0 for the first, 1 for the second etc.)
Reboot and check the BIOS version and stock clocks in GPU-Z
Profit!
I have done this to both mine and my brothers 280x (also an asus r9280x-dc2-3gd5) Both video cards have been 2 months free of artifacting, crashing, instability. Enjoy!
