R9 280x DirectCU II Top Artifacts!!

HEllo i just upgraded from an 7870 to the R9280X-DC2T-3GD5

I followed these steps for drivers

1. Ran Catalyst control center from C:/ AMD and did a custom uninstall. Removed all
2. Restarted computer
3. Ran Driver Fusion and deleted everything from AMD
4. Restarted computer
5. Installed latest 13.12 R9 drivers from AMD site

I get artifacts (shapes, lines , squares) flashing everywhere in screen , when in Chrome, in Dota 2 and Planetside 2. Haven't tested in more games , but I guess it will be the same.
The card will need a replacement? I have a Corsair CX600 , AMD FX 8350, Corsair Vengeance 2x4gb 1600 mhz
I read somewhere about GPU bios update. I ran the GPU ASUS TWEAK software that came in with the CD, and i tried to update something but i got a message ROM programming fail. But then it seemed to installed the update and forced me to restart the computer.
But still i get artifacts.
What do you suggest?

I recommend that everyone with issues with this card contact the BBB and file a complaint. This is the only way something will be done.

Hi all,

I have 2 of these cards and lately one of them is causing more and more artefacts. It is still in warranty but I believe that the shop will question the warranty if I return them, since most of these artefacts occur in games and not in the benchmarks they run to test them. Do you guys know any benchmark / test that would cause the faulty cards to fail on a consistent basis ?

Thank you

Hi

Try running Furmark with Max settings. Go into settings and max it out. if the card is artifacting it will defiantly artifact in Furmark
You could also try Unigen Valley, max settings as well.
When it comes to artifacts you have to leave the benchmark for a while before noticing it. But like the rest of the R9 280x owners we are all suffering from the same issue, your best bet is to return the card.
i have basically tried everything and the card still has issues. if you do a google search you will find that hundreds of users are suffering from the same problem.

Try the latest crimson drivers if you havent already.

Not particularly true. The GPU's artifacting comes from the 1GB worth of VRAMs which are not covered by heatsinks. That's why people around here have some problems replicating the issue.

My GPU has no problem running Furmark or Unigine Valley but if I start up GTA 5, Shadows of Mordor or basically any game that uses over 2GB of RAM, in less than an hour the GPU will start artifacting.

In some rare cases the GPU starts artifacting in other games like Starcraft, WoW, Dota or Witcher 3 but when it artifacts in these games, the artifacts are a clipping black box(or two) on the screen. They very rarely completely ruin the gameplay as in GTA 5 and Shadows of Mordor.

I thank Bahz for this friendly response to the issue. ASUS is one of the better companies here in my country quality-wise, but I guess everyone can screw it up once in a while.

All in all, I seriously believe this is a hardware issue and can't be fixed by software(I'm not talking here about downclocking the memories).

It's definitely a 2-2.5GB+ usage that makes it easier to run into these artifacts. It's ASUS's fault for overvolting the VRAM to try get stable 6.4GHZ speed on them. Which would probably be fine if they used proper cooling of VRAM but they didn't.
I'm now in a horror stage of RMA with ASUS, where my artifacting card has been after 45 days replaced with a card that is a complete mashup of used parts, junk, damaged and can't be used due to the damage, practically DOA.
So far ASUS RMA is one of the worst I have seen. Slow as hell and when they do send you something back that they do not manufacture anymore they mash something up from used parts to brush you off.
It's gonna be a 2nd RMA and who knows how long wait again.

Even i sent my card for RMA, now I am scared....

Issues like these will definetly prevent me to buy ASUS components in future.......

Once again for those who missed my previous message, if you're having issues with the RMA please pass me the following information and I'll make sure to escalate the case and have this resolved for you as soon as possible.

Full name:
Phone #:
Email:
RMA #:
Ticket/Case ID:
Product S/N:

Thanks,
Bahz

ASUS doesn't seem to accept direct RMA from end user and I have to RMA through the shop where the card was bought.
As such getting access to the RMA case info is almost impossible, I've already asked the shop but no reply on that from them, they might not even have it themselves since they are a shop not an individual making the typical RMA in US, it's quite a bit different here in EU.

I could get you, shop name, my name, their phone numbers, their email server and emails of the people I emailed with at the shop that handled the card, I can't probably get you RMA # if one exists since the shop does the RMA not an individual, same with ticket case ID, I can definitely give you the S/N.

I'll try PM you the info I can get. It's 2 months without a GPU and in no sight of this endless RMAing being resolved by ASUS.

I don't know why but PMs are again acting up and gives me a:

Maybe the forum doesn't like 64 bit browsers, works fine in 32 bit Chrome.
PM with info sent.

Thanks for the info we'll have our service team follow up on your case.

Regarding the error, it seems to be working fine on my browser (both 32-bit and 64-bit)

Can you please PM me which browser and version you're using that's giving you this error? Thanks.
