HEllo i just upgraded from an 7870 to the R9280X-DC2T-3GD5

I followed these steps for drivers

1. Ran Catalyst control center from C:/ AMD and did a custom uninstall. Removed all
2. Restarted computer
3. Ran Driver Fusion and deleted everything from AMD
4. Restarted computer
5. Installed latest 13.12 R9 drivers from AMD site

I get artifacts (shapes, lines , squares) flashing everywhere in screen , when in Chrome, in Dota 2 and Planetside 2. Haven't tested in more games , but I guess it will be the same.
The card will need a replacement? I have a Corsair CX600 , AMD FX 8350, Corsair Vengeance 2x4gb 1600 mhz
I read somewhere about GPU bios update. I ran the GPU ASUS TWEAK software that came in with the CD, and i tried to update something but i got a message ROM programming fail. But then it seemed to installed the update and forced me to restart the computer.
But still i get artifacts.
What do you suggest?

I have R9 280x DCU II Top, bought in January 2014.
And I am too facing artifacts in GTA SA, used to face them in Farcry 3 as well.
Hitman Absolution, Batman Arkham origins, BF3, Tomb Raider all run without them.
I cant upgrade my Bios version too. GPU tweak shows an update but cant install it fails when run.

Try to DL the BIOS update from ASUS site. Just DL and run it.

Hi all. I'm in the market for a r9 280x and I came across this thread after googling r9 280x problems.

Are the artifacts linked to certain Asus cards/models or would I be best advised to forget the 280x and look at something else.

The card is mainly for HTPC duties on a 4790k system. Overkill for 1080p MKV playback? Yes, but one day soon I may get back into gaming. I don't want to end up with a pig of a GPU as my current HD6450 (passive) is flawless for playing movies.

I want to stay with AMD as I get a great smooth playback with MADVR. Visually I'm good and I need the ability to bitstream HDMI audio like DTS-HD to my receiver.

Any advice?

Hi All here an update !

So after a year or so, I finally got a working card. Of course not a 280x, they don't have it anymore.

Overall I'm satisfied, one part because I just don't use my pc often, so I can wait, and secondly because they admit (finally) that those cards are a real pain. So the world-wide-web told me/them as well!

It just sad to ''fight'' with a very very well known problem.

Like I said, I'm not a difficult customer, most of the time I just let go, but this one, I was 100% right. I do make sure before any RMA that is was the card.

So thanks Asus for the support, but next time you've got a well known issue, stop trying to find excuses.
Or do like cars, make a recall. This will avoid bad comments, many pages thread like this one and many thread on reddit/google.

Hello all
I just bought 2 of these 280x dcii. I bought em used . Always i have Always been a big Asus fan i was expecting good results.
I tossed them in, and not shortly it was messing up with artifacts of all sorts. The card was running 1070/1600.
After finding this thread i tried a few things. And came up with an odd solution. (I even flashed Them but with Extreme bad results).
1070/1728 was giving me a full night playtime with no errors. Occationally it would do so, but NOT Everyday. I run em om 015.041 bios.
Just my experience.

I did not see any artifacts on Chrome maybe because I have disabled hardware acceleration. Search the web and see for your self that the majority of the users have these kinds of issues and even worst. Clearly, there is no solution as of now, only to RMA and hope. Although I can't find a clue that whom RMA'ed cards got replaced with a good one.

RMA means they test it and they send it back?? i would just want to send it for replacement

They test it and if they find an issue they send you another one. If they don't find, they send you back the same. The shipping costs is also on you. Depends on the country I think.

Get in touch with the store you bought it. They will tell you the details about the RMA.
