HEllo i just upgraded from an 7870 to the R9280X-DC2T-3GD5

I followed these steps for drivers

1. Ran Catalyst control center from C:/ AMD and did a custom uninstall. Removed all
2. Restarted computer
3. Ran Driver Fusion and deleted everything from AMD
4. Restarted computer
5. Installed latest 13.12 R9 drivers from AMD site

I get artifacts (shapes, lines , squares) flashing everywhere in screen , when in Chrome, in Dota 2 and Planetside 2. Haven't tested in more games , but I guess it will be the same.
The card will need a replacement? I have a Corsair CX600 , AMD FX 8350, Corsair Vengeance 2x4gb 1600 mhz
I read somewhere about GPU bios update. I ran the GPU ASUS TWEAK software that came in with the CD, and i tried to update something but i got a message ROM programming fail. But then it seemed to installed the update and forced me to restart the computer.
But still i get artifacts.
What do you suggest?

This has 2 solutions. First the easy one that has been mentioned by many posters:
1) Give it back to the retailer either ask for refund or buy another card, 770 or 290 etc.
2) Pester ASUS to give you a working 280X card. Maybe ask for v2 that has a back plate which may absorb some more heat and could be more stable. My RMAed card does work perfectly so just have faith and pester them to give you what you paid for.

Opening it up etc will void your warranty so you should be full aware of this fact and risk before going forward.

sigh it's AMAZING how Asus conveniently ignores my mention of another user getting his card exchanged for a nVidia 770GTX GPU and repeatedly denies me that option

this probably gonna be my last Asus product

im using HD7970 matrix platinum n having artifact for like 6months.. afraid that RMA wont solve the problem. after change the ekwb waterblock still having same problem.. guess not the temp problem cause the temp was like below 50degree in gaming. can i go to ASUS center and pay more to get a r9 290x?

I wish I had read this forum before I jump into this mess.. My card is 8 days out of the box and I've had the same artefacting issues. Tried everything including a fresh install of windows. Updated all drivers for mobo and card. Still getting the same problems. I also have a friend who is now experiencing the same stuff with his card. I thought maybe it was just his computer. Nope... seems we're both now stuck with a 350.00 door stop. THANKS ASUS!

If you have acess to the 30 day refund or trade policy in your country jump right in to it and don't wait any longer !!

Well, maybe DCY is the newest batch? Bbbbb...
If it's working great then either you're a lucky guy or this IS the new batch and it's all fixed.

I think i'm gonna RMA mine soon. Can't stand that black square anymore. It's getting really annoying. 😞

Are you guys getting issues with driver crashing and recovering ? I have 2 280x Top bought in January in crossfire and it happens quite often, usually in 2D, but happened while playing in 3D as well.

I am getting artefacts as well , mostly in Chrome and some in WoW, didnt' get that black square yet in games, but I saw it in an Android emulator and in Chrome and I get random screen tearing in a few games . I will do some testing with GTA IV and BF4 these days , to get a clear picture. Of course, no issues in Heaven benchmark...

Have you tried updating the cards BIOS to the latest one? Looks like you have 2D artifact problems. The old BIOS did that but the latest one fixes it.
The benchmarking tools never gave me any artifacts either but runing a GPU intensive game gives me that annoying square usually. 🙂
BF4 is great for testing. It always gives me that square after an hour or two of playing, sometimes even texture artifacting.

Yesterday I took the cards out, swapped them in the case , also opened up the case chimney on top, I haven't had any artefacts yet, I will check again tonight . The BIOS is updated on both cards I think, I did it a couple of months ago, probably one of the cards is messier than the other and was causing the artefacts. I will update here after I do more testing.
