HEllo i just upgraded from an 7870 to the R9280X-DC2T-3GD5

I followed these steps for drivers

1. Ran Catalyst control center from C:/ AMD and did a custom uninstall. Removed all
2. Restarted computer
3. Ran Driver Fusion and deleted everything from AMD
4. Restarted computer
5. Installed latest 13.12 R9 drivers from AMD site

I get artifacts (shapes, lines , squares) flashing everywhere in screen , when in Chrome, in Dota 2 and Planetside 2. Haven't tested in more games , but I guess it will be the same.
The card will need a replacement? I have a Corsair CX600 , AMD FX 8350, Corsair Vengeance 2x4gb 1600 mhz
I read somewhere about GPU bios update. I ran the GPU ASUS TWEAK software that came in with the CD, and i tried to update something but i got a message ROM programming fail. But then it seemed to installed the update and forced me to restart the computer.
But still i get artifacts.
What do you suggest?

Those 2mm heatsinks look really sweet so i hope it solves it for you bro.

Some of them of use the hynix ones as well but they're of different models. The ones in 290 etc use the 1.6 volts one. While 280 uses a different one @1.5V. That's why when these are OCed to operate on higher frequencies they create graphical problems for us.

After a search on the web I found that R9 290x Matrix uses Elpida VRAM modules and no Hynix.

I've just recieved my 2mm heatsinks by post, it came from Hong Kong even, shipping was really cheap €15 in total for 3x6 heatsinks, i'll be installing them at some point during the next week, will update this.

I don't know who put my card together, but next time go easy on the thermal paste, bloody hell lol.

Also fixed fan rattling of back fan, really weird design of the montage, the back screw of the bracket is behind a cooling pipe, how the hell are you supposed to tighten that one Asus, thank god it was the other screw wich was slightly loose, would have had to make a simple tool to tighten it otherwise.

It was a pain in the butt to clean all that thermal paste, it was like hard cement like, as5 will fix that.

2mm heatsinks installed, after putting it back together i checked the clearance and 2mm was just right.

Now time will tell if it made a difference to the vrams, gpu temp dropped by like 4c on idle alrdy lol.

The clearance is confirmed by me and Xarups so it wasn't a problem. Waiting for your result out of curiosity tho because I had already sent mine for refund.

Did the vram heat sinks solve the artifacting problem, also where did you buy them from?

@Vlammenzee

Good luck with the heat sinks, I really hope they solve your problems with this card.

So if I'm to understand this correctly. My Matrix 290x was probably just bad luck on my part because it's not using the Hynix VRAM?

I don't want to beat a dead horse but I'm really just trying to weight my options out as to how reliable this card is. I would like to overclock and have seriously considered buying the EK water block for it. That's a large investment to only have the same problem again down the road.

A quick Google search shows many people having the same exact issue on the 290x's as I'm describing and seemingly what the OP is saying for his 280x. Even though its different VRAM it's very ironic that the problems seem to be very similar.
Killing them softly.

I think it must be a bad "egg" or ASUS went fully retard when manufactured the R9 series. I can't be so sure why this card has the same symptoms with the R9 280X despise the fact that utilizes different VRAM modules from different manufacturer.

New info about my RMA. Today I was informed that I will receive new card. This one is third in a row. I really hope that this one will work properly. Otherwise I will sell it as is for cheap and buy GTX 770. I was also asking dealer for swap for another card, but they didn't want to do it, so I'm stuck with it. When I get it delivered, I will let you know if is works properly.

Also post the first three digits of the serial number to verify if this new batch that Ishan saying is working.
