Those 2mm heatsinks look really sweet so i hope it solves it for you bro.
Some of them of use the hynix ones as well but they're of different models. The ones in 290 etc use the 1.6 volts one. While 280 uses a different one @1.5V. That's why when these are OCed to operate on higher frequencies they create graphical problems for us.

I don't know who put my card together, but next time go easy on the thermal paste, bloody hell lol.
Also fixed fan rattling of back fan, really weird design of the montage, the back screw of the bracket is behind a cooling pipe, how the hell are you supposed to tighten that one Asus, thank god it was the other screw wich was slightly loose, would have had to make a simple tool to tighten it otherwise.
It was a pain in the butt to clean all that thermal paste, it was like hard cement like, as5 will fix that.
2mm heatsinks installed, after putting it back together i checked the clearance and 2mm was just right.
Now time will tell if it made a difference to the vrams, gpu temp dropped by like 4c on idle alrdy lol.

So if I'm to understand this correctly. My Matrix 290x was probably just bad luck on my part because it's not using the Hynix VRAM?
I don't want to beat a dead horse but I'm really just trying to weight my options out as to how reliable this card is. I would like to overclock and have seriously considered buying the EK water block for it. That's a large investment to only have the same problem again down the road.
A quick Google search shows many people having the same exact issue on the 290x's as I'm describing and seemingly what the OP is saying for his 280x. Even though its different VRAM it's very ironic that the problems seem to be very similar.

New info about my RMA. Today I was informed that I will receive new card. This one is third in a row. I really hope that this one will work properly. Otherwise I will sell it as is for cheap and buy GTX 770. I was also asking dealer for swap for another card, but they don't want to do it, so I'm stuck with it. When I get it delivered, I will let you know if is works properly.
