Question on Asus HD7970 Direct CU II

Hi,

I have a question that I would like to have a "100% certain" answer to.

The 7970 Direct CU II has 2 DVI ports and 4 Display ports on output.

Now my question is, I am using 3 screens, 1 is a DP to DVI active adapteur , n° 2 is DVI to Vga and n° 3 is HDMI to VGA active adapteur.

Would I be able to use the same setup which would be using the 2 DVI outputs (1 with a DVI to HDMI, and the other with a DVI to VGA)?

On my 6870's I can use both DVI's if I don't use the other outputs, but as soon as I use either the DP or HDMI output, one DVI shuts down.

Thanks.

Nobody knows? Need an answer quick as I'll either be buying an Asus 7970 DCU II or a Sapphire 7970 Vapor X and to get the 5 games that come with them I have to buy before the 28th.

What I have read is that you can only run 2 legacy which are VGA, DVI or HDMI and the rest with a native DP or active Adapters, but on the from what I checked for the Matrix is that if you use the First DP from Right to left it disables the First DVI port from right to left. you can see it in the pic at the bottom of this page but then again I checked it for the Matrix .

I looked at that, can't quite get my head round it.

I suppose what I need to know most is can I use both DVI's (DVI to VGA on 1 and DVI to HDMI on the other) and 1 of the DP ports at the same time?

SO what you are saying is that I can use the 2 DVI's + one of the 3 DP's on the left?

I believe you can, even if it was the case on my reference first I had 1 DVI to HDMI adapter 1 HDMI connection since they are both legacy cannot connect a 3erd with a non active display port connection so right now I have 2 active mini DP to DVI and on top of that 2 DVI to HDMI adapeters and 1 hdmi to the card... all my monitors are HDMI.
So on this card you can run 2 legacy the 2 DVI with any adapter VGA or HDMI just for the 3erd you need an active adapter that now come in VGA, DVI and HDMI forms. And yes start on the DP from Left to Right but Im just reading on this can really say Yes go for it!

Thanks, been looking at the Asus site for hours trying to find the answer.

What annoys me the most is it isn't clearly written anywhere, and I would like to stay with Asus on my next card.

The Sapphire Vapor X interests me as well (always bought Sapphire before winning the HD6870 DC here) and I know I can use the setup that I am using now with the Sapphire (outputs on the Sapphire are 2xDVI, 1 HDMI and 1 DP) and if it works the same way as my Sapphire 6870, that means I just use one of each and all works.

God I'm stupid, the means of testing if it would work or not is staring me in the face.

My Asus 6870 DC has 2 DVI outputs and 2 DP outputs. Just need to plug everything into that instead of the Sapphire.

Thanks for taking the time to help, thats what I love about the RoG forums 🙂
