Need help to power 6x VS247H-P with 2x HD7970-DC2T-3GD5 with Eyefinity

currently they are wired as per Advertised on the Card micro site http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/AMD_Series/HD7970DC2T3GD5/

here's the configuration

EAH7970 ___________________________ VS247H-P
DVI-D ------------------------------------------> HDMI
DVI-D ------------------------------------------> HDMI
DisplayPort ----------------------------------> HDMI
DisplayPort ----------------------------------> HDMI
DisplayPort ----------------------------------> HDMI
DisplayPort ----------------------------------> HDMI

I choosed to use HDMI on the other side for easier cable management through the inner tubes of the 6 monitor mount

(the picture doesn't make it justice, the real thing is super sturdy and of very fine quality build, with very nicely done hollow tubes to run the cables from the inside), because the DVD-D connector is too big to fit through the holes of the Hex Monitor mount.

Running Win7 x64 with 12-3 catalyst drivers

maximum i can only manage to power on 4 monitors, but windows only lets me use 2 monitors at a time
it's having trouble detecting the 6th monitor, the 5th monitor i need to change another cable as it seems like a cable issue with #5

but regardless of that It should at the very least let me use my 4 monitor if i physically disconnect the cables on the other 2 problematic ones, yet Win7 will still not let me use more than 2 monitors, so what's the deal with that?

If i go to Screen chooser in Win7 or from Within Catalyst Desktop Manager, all 5 monitors shows up, but it wont let me use them all, not even as separate desktops.

i can do a combination of 2 anything

2x DVD-D or 2x DP, or 1 DP + 1 DVD-D

but it wont let me use all 4 at any given time 😞

it's been driving me nuts for the past couple of days

I want to enjoy my new rig, but can't do that until i get this thing sorted out.

I just got hold of 4 DP to DVI-D just for troubleshooting shakes, but i'm sure it won't make any difference.

so, the new setup will be:

EAH7970 ___________________________ VS247H-P
DVI-D ------------------------------------------> DVI-D
DVI-D ------------------------------------------> DVI-D
DisplayPort ----------------------------------> DVI-D
DisplayPort ----------------------------------> DVI-D
DisplayPort ----------------------------------> DVI-D
DisplayPort ----------------------------------> DVI-D

And if you must know, the tiny Switch in the video card it's set properly to the "Left" to allow the use of DP + DVI-D instead of "Right" which only allows Dual link DVD-D as per factory default.

I'm I missing something on the software side?

Any help or ideas will be very much appreciated

Try the 8.97 drivers (available here, original thread at Guru3D here). They actually work with 3DMark11 for me. Funky idea, with your current driver install, try setting the system to non-eyefinity and the screen that you want to run 3DMark on at a resolution less than 1920x1080, see if it still crashes.

can i just ask this about the set up.

are all your monitors Displayport ready ?

i have 1 sp monitor and 4 normal monitors with displayport to DVI cables, no dongles just the cables but i can only get 3 out of 5 monitors working, do i ACTUALLY need DP monitors for all and can i run 5 on this in portrait mode, i mean drivers now say i can card says i can but my system says i cant, and what the hell is the little tiny switch for on the card next to the crossfire links ?

all pics and drawings are too small to see it or read what it says. my eyes are good but not that good

go back to my first post, all the answers are there

and a few post after that i confirmed what i suspected on the first post

as for those 6 asus monitor, if you check out their spec in the ASUS website you'll see they don't even have display ports

Spoony, I think your card only can handle 3 screens at once. It looks like it was certified only for 3, so it is probably a hardware limitation (check out the Eyefinity info on the page for that card, as well check the documentation that only shows the Eyefinity 3-monitor logo). You may be out of luck I'm afraid 😞

im not out of luck at all, i have the DC2TOP 7970 card says on the box 6 screen eyefinity is possible. and i have 2 more coming in a few weeks.

it better not only do 3 screens or i wont be a happy chap and i will want my money back as its the reason i got it for 5/6 screens and nothing more or i would have just stuck with my 3 x 6970 cards

right im stuck now.
got 4 active displayport adapters and i can still only get 3 to work, been through your post nothing there helps and im propper lost now.

any ideas ?

4 dp adapters plus 1 dp monitor rest are normal dvi vga ports on them. got dvi vga cables hdmi dp/dvi cable nothing i try works

I'm having the exact same problems as Spoony, I have 6 monitors and only 5/6 are working. If I flip the switch on the video card and reboot then I only get 4/6 monitors. The monitors show up in Windows display settings, but the 6th one says it's a VGA monitor....

Any ideas? I've been waiting on hold for Asus Tech Support for over an hour and they don't seem to like to answer the phone...
