Help: ASUS ROG Radeon R9 280X 3GB Matrix Platinum Fans Stay at 100%

I just built a all new gaming rig. I haven't built one in around 6 years so I think the issue is something I missed. Basically, my card runs both fans at 100% all the time no matter the load level. This makes it very load even when idle doing nothing. Even the ROG GUI locks out changing the fan speed. My guess is I'm missing a connection that enables fan support.

Sadly my card came with no instructions for installing and there's still nothing on the ASUS website in the cards support section. So I only installed the standard dual power plugs.

FYI, here is my PC setup...

Have you run Samsung Magician software optimiser yet?

Down load and open GPU tweak and select defaults this should sort out both cards running at 100% fan.

No change, here's how it (the GUI) looks after default was selected and applied.

Since my question hasn't been answered can someone link me where I can learn more about this card and get proper installation instructions?

Hi Gordon....really there should be no special instruction necessary...the card should just be seated properly into the PCIe slot and fixed to the case...powered correctly with the full complement of connections and work right out of the box.

Have you tried using GPU Tweak for updating the BIOS? Does that card have two BIOSes or a turbo fan button?

I'd even try uninstalling GPUtweak and using afterburner instead or Precision X

Have you tried the card in another slot?

Thanks for the help. I actually took it out and looked it over completely dumbfounded, cause like you say it is straight forward. Turns out it was users error on my part, or ignorance. At some point the 100% turbo fan button on the card was pushed in. Out of desperation I pushed it after reinstalling and then it went into normal fan speeds. So, if I ever see someone else ask a similar question I'll tell them to check that first. 🙂
