HD7950-DC2T - Eyefinity not working?

Need-To-Know

So I am sure I am not setting something up correctly.

I have read a lot of forums and mostly they say I need an "active" adapter. But then others say you do not.

I have
one plugged into the dvi port.
one plugged into the HDMI port.
one plugged into the dvi to mini port adapter included with the card.

I know all three monitors work because at windows startup I see my middle monitor and left monitor. But when it reaches the welcome screen it shifts to my right monitor and middle monitor.

In CCC if I hit detect displays it shows all three. But in eyefinity it only gives me 2 as an option.

I can setup middle and right or middle and left but not all three.

Currently I have two Samsungs and an old Hanns in the config but I ordered another Samsung that should be here next week.

Really like the 7950 so far.

Ok so I can not figure out if the adapter included with the card is active or should I order another one...and which one should I order?
Since they cost around $30 I would like a recommendation before buying one.

And because I want to help others with same type of question, here is what AMD says:
Also when I find an answer (looks like maybe else where) I will post it here too.

Connectivity Requirements: AMD Eyefinity technology is supported by graphics cards in the ATI Radeon™ HD 5400 series and higher. These cards can support up to six monitors (depending on the model), subject to the following restrictions:
• A maximum of 2 legacy monitors (VGA, DVI or HDMI) can be enabled simultaneously, provided that each monitor is connected either directly or via a “passive” DisplayPort™ adapter/dongle. “Passive” adapters/dongles will NOT support more than 2 legacy monitors.
• To enable support for more than 2 monitors, “active” DisplayPort™ adapters/dongles are required (or monitors with direct DisplayPort™ connectivity must be used).
• Approved “active” adapters have no general connectivity restrictions with AMD Eyefinity technology.

Seems so simple an answer but no one here ever answered me..... odd.

So I found the answer on another (more active) forum and will post it here for the next guy looking:

I bought this adapter and it is active so it works fine. Also had good reviews:

HIS Mini DisplayPort to Single Link-DVI Eyefinity Adapter HMDPSDVIEYE Mini DisplayPort to DVI Interf...

$18.99
I also bought the Newegg $6 extended warranty....learned to do that after an ROG RMA...lol

they was experiencing problem with the forum server. it come back online only today

Hi, Need to know, have you resolved the problem with the displayes after purchasing the active adapter, I have the same problem and would like to know before purchasing one.

Thanks.

Did you buy the 7950 flex card ?

because in most cards som eof the ports are linked together so they dont allow you have 3 screns on same time with out another active adapter of some kind.

I used a active adapter on my 5870 card for 3 screens eyefinity

The flex card has made each port active so you can use 3 screens with no adapters.. 🙂

With the 7950 and 7970 cards if you wish to have three monitors you DO NEED an active Display port. I can confirm this based on my own testing.
