HD 6850 low 3dmark score

WeRNothiNg
Level 10
This is for my nephew's PC. System specs on this rig are;

Asus P5Q Pro Turbo
8gb OCz Gold DDR2 800
Q8300 Core 2 Quad
2x Sapphire HD 6850
Kingston HyperX 3K SSD

This first link is with one vcard and the second is Xfire. Notice what 3dmark says about the CPU and RAM. This is very odd. Fo whatever reason, his scores are bad low as well.

Why do you think there is anything wrong with those scores? The CPU drives the benchmark and that is a very old CPU.

Yes futuremark does not always read the CPU frequency correctly or at all.

The bar graph on the page shows his being the only one that low. Most are between 5-7000.

and yes, that was a P45

No, my memory was very close. He is one of very few to score that low.

Ah I am looking at the first link.

If you were to investigate you will find that most of the other scores are with different CPU's and I would bet most of those CPU's are newer. What I think is happening (pretty sure) is throttling. In other words the CPU is not powerful enough to garner the full bandwidth needed for the two cards to shine.

One is just fine, but two is asking too much.

Right on. Well I gave him the motherboard, CPU, and RAM. He bought the cards and is planning on buying a new mobo and all sometime before October. If he throws then in with an i7 he will be alright for a while.
