Fan control on Asus 7970 Matrix

My card works perfect on stock settings, however, if I want to OC it, I need to manually raise the fan speed, or else it will heat up and crash. Should this not be handled by the card automatically? Fan speeding up as temperature goes up. On top of it, GPU tweak user software fan control user defined settings don't work, as I've tried to set-it for fans to speed up automatically, and nothing happened. So either I'm doing something wrong, or there is something wrong with my card.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Do you have the latest GPU Tweak?

We fine-tune our fans profile to provide the best balance between great cooling and remaining as silent as possible. The moment you start overclocking and raising voltages it pretty much throws our work out of the windows. What you need to do is use a program like GPU-Tweak to find the best balance for the settings YOU are using!

Thank you for your responses. I actually figured it out, lol, I was doing it wrong in not following proper sequence for setting the fan speed in user defined settings.

All is good now.
