ASUS UEFI vBIOS tool for Radeon 7000 series cards! It's Here!

X-ROG
Level 15
Hi Everyone,

The tool is finally here. Please find your Radeon card from this link: http://support.asus.com/download/ModelList.aspx?SLanguage=en&keyword=HD&type=1

This bit is critical:
* You will be UNABLE to flash back to the original legacy-only BIOS. HOWEVER, the new GOP UEFI BIOS is actually a Hybrid BIOS. It includes the legacy one as well as the UEFI one. But...
* We are only able to qualify its use ASUS motherboards: that includes those with UEFI BIOS' and those with older legacy BIOS' (we've checked on boards up to ~4 years ago). Other motherboards might work with our UEFI graphics cards but we cannot officially endorse compatibility as we don't have access to all BIOS and board revisions. The software checks if your motherboard is compatible.
* (If you intend to sell-on your card to fund a future upgrade, since you can't flash back, remember this decision affects the next person you sell to)

FAQ:

Do you need this GOP UEFI update?
If you want to use Win 8 Fast Boot, then yet, otherwise no. Do not upgrade if you don't need to. (If it works, don't fix it )

What factors do you need to get Win 8 Fast Boot running?
Only these motherboards listed below support Win 8 Fast Boot, due to a major, ground-up re-write to make the UEFI spec compatible with the Win function (this doesn't just affect ASUS motherboards FYI).

- All Intel 7 Series
- Upcoming Intel 8 Series
- Intel X79 Series updated to Win8 BIOS (3xxx)
- Intel H61 Series R2.0 or later
- All AMD R2.0 Series or later

THE SOFTWARE WILL CHECK IF YOUR BOARD IS COMPATIBLE.

Despite others being 'UEFI' boards (P67, Z68 etc) they are not compatible with Win 8 Fast Boot even after you update to GOP UEFI on your graphics card.

So, it's a Hybrid BIOS? Does that mean if I plan to upgrade my motherboard and OS to Win 8 later I can still update my GPU BIOS now?
As long as you own an ASUS board, sure. Upgrading the GPU now in preparation will still allow it to fall-back to legacy mode on your ASUS motherboard for the time being. You should see no change in the way it functions or performs. We still encourage the 'if it's not broke, don't fix it' though.

You will need:

Windows 8
UEFI compatible motherboard
GTX 600 or Radeon 7000 series graphics card
NOT OVERCLOCKED SYSTEM - DON'T RISK IT! Take normal BIOS flashing precautions.
If you run an CrossFire/SLI system, our advise is that you install 1 card at a time for this process.

Thanks for your patience everyone!

I have tried 3 internet connections & still same issue. Called support & they suggested to clean install of windows. No virus orfirewall & direct connection to modem with same results. They said possible servers are down & suggest to wait 24 hours. I waiter 24 hours & same issue. I called su support again & they guy put me on hold & said he will try to flash a 7970 he has in the support center & he said it flashed successfully. I tried again with same error. The support agent said he will rma the card out & will have the replacement card sent to him to be updated to uefi before it it is sent to me. But why am i getting this error?

I was told by asus yesterday morning that the tool is out but not all cards are being updated at this time. Basically it could be 2 to 3 months from now before getting an update. winch i am not surprised since they have not updated the UEFI Bios for secure boot and it is Windows 8 supported . In my eyes Asus Products SUCK!! Due to lack of support reason why? They don't care about you they just want your money and give you a crap product that will not work. Product support dose not know what there talking about half of the time. ASUS just sucks on product support! MAYBE! Maybe if your lucky you'll get someone that knows what the hell there talking about and work with you. but most of the people they higher are dumb asses that have no Tech degree

MB: M5A97 (Supported)
GPU: HD7770-2GD5 Vbois not out yet

Contact support & ask for John Gittner. He has helped me out with my vbios issue on the 7970 not wanting to update the bios, then it did update and no video after reboot. He knows what he is talking about & he even offered to update the bios of the replacement card before it shipped to me if it would ship from that location. However it did not (shipped from another warehouse). When I did call to check to see if he checked & updated he said he could not as it left from a another facility but asked i got a label to returns he old one back & i told him they told me i have to pay shipping back & he said no, i will email you the label & few minutes later i had the shipping label. He is takes care of his callers. AGAIN ASK FOR JOHN GITTNER.

There is a chance that they updated my vbios during RMA or I purchased it already with updated one ... Is there a way to check that ? What things they've done with my card during RMA ?

I am waiting, as so many others are, for Asus to make the Radeon 7000 series UEFI GOP BIOS generally available to Asus GPU owners. It seems that this may not happen any time soon. Would anyone with an Asus HD7770-2GD5 with the UEFI GOP BIOS installed be willing to extract the BIOS file and post it, or email it to me? Thank you in advance.

Mike M.

None of the 7870 models on the Asus support website have the UEFI VBIOS update available...

I was told (some time ago) that the UEFI VBIOS was "under test", but it's been real silent since then. It's becoming more and more likely that the update will never materialise, which I find very unfortunate. I want to get rid of the CSM in my BIOS.

Has anyone with a HD7950-DC2-3GD5-V2 been able to obtain a working UEFI upgrade (.ROM/.BIN) that would be willing to toss it up for other's to download? The rest of us who can not get this tool to work would greatly appreciate it!

Any news regarding this? It really makes Asus look like amateurs compared to other vendors which simply give out you EUFI GOP update via email if you want it.

But what I'm talking about, HD7950-DC2T-3GD5-V2 has non-working BIOS versions posted on support site, been talking with support for months and nobody did nothing. Incredible.
