Asus Matrix Platinum 290x Artifacts

I've been through a lot with this 290x. I have already RMA'ed this card once and Asus said they couldn't duplicate the problem. Maybe someone here can help me. First let me show you the problem:

Here are some of things I did to troubleshoot:

* Different power supply
* Tried different PCI x16 slots
* Downclocked every possible settings via Asus GPU Tweak
* Undervolted every possible settings via Asus GPU Tweak
* Reinstalled Windows to ensure no other software conflicts
* Flashed to latest UEFI provided by my motherboard manufacturer
* Tried the last 5 drivers provided by the AMD Radeon drivers site
* Tried the drivers linked on Asus
* Tried the latest beta drivers from AMD
* Tried it on Linux (same artifacts)
* Reset the BIOS
* Used several driver cleaners to wipe the old drivers

I'm at a stand still with this card and don't know what else to do. Like I said I've RMA'ed it once already. They sent me back the exact same card. Now they're saying something about needing a credit card to hold the cost of the card until the problem is resolved. I don't have that kind of money at the moment. And I'm pretty much stuck with a expensive high end GPU that I can't do anything with. Getting to the point where I might ditch it cheap on Ebay.

The standard/LN2 switch should have been on standard from the factory, what power supply are you using, single or multiple 12v rail, if multiple you may need to make sure your card is on it's own rail or it may need more than one rail to supply enough current to the card. Large cards require more current than reference cards, from my personnel experience not having enough power supply causes not only artifacts, but sudden blue screens, restarts, over heating and other issues

I have a XFX 650 Core Edition PSU and a 520 watt Seasonic I plugged directly into the aux. plugs on the GPU to see if it had enough power. I only buy single rail.

Anyone know what it means if you have to bump up the voltage to 1400mV to get it to run right?

to get a clear picture:
are you overclocking the gpu in anyway or is at stock volts just like after clean install ?

Zero overclocks and I reinstalled Windows when I got the card back from RMA a few days ago.

At first this happened to me exactly the same

. I did this: CHECK CATALSYsT: overdrivethis H A S to HAVE been DISABLED.

GET the 30 days trial verzion From: REVO UNINSTALLER. RUN IT.

FROM MAIN REVO menu find the tools such as MSI afterburner, Asus GPU Tweak, SAPPHIRE TRIXX, (IF YOU USED ANOTHER OC TOOL UNINSTALL THEM ALL.

Do this with th REVO, After the deinstaller is done, choose search for left overs. If it t finds and delete everything.
Repeat for every overclock software.

Boot in save mode (google your win version followed by : booting into save mode) and you will find the method to boot in safe mode.

Go to device manager, right cllick on your gpu and choose Uninstall (or remove) this device, than choose option fully remove driver aoso? Choose yes. Reboot normally, find Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU in short:

https://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.wagnardmobile.com/&sa=U&ei=vPTOU82qI4TCPIzEgbAJ&ved=0CBQQFjA...

DOWNLOAD AND run the exe file. You get PROMPTED that it want to boot in save mode,
DO THAT. IF BOOTED it askes if you will let de tool run.
Choose AMD (IF YOU WANT REMOVE NVIDIA CHOOSE THAT) and sellect completely remove any .... Drivers.

let the tool clean ALL Previously installed drivers (RECOMMEND = a must in this case) Let it finish (it will remove a boatload of files). Exit ddu and it reboots you back to windows.

NOW IS A GREAT POINT TO MAKE A SYSTEM IMAGE (YES BEFORE INSTALLING ANY GPU DRIVERS). BEST FREE AND INSANE EASY TO USE is AOMEI BackUpper https://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.backup-utility.com/free-backup-software.html&sa=U&ei=pe3OU_2...).

Creat an exact copy of your OS (AND guys store these backups on external drive!!). Aomei backupper creates a, complete image of your OS drive (240Gb ssd in 19 minutes). Keep that Image for safe keepings.
With Aomei create Bootable resque medium (can be a cd or dvd or usb stick. Any trouble somewhere long the line: shut down, boot system on AOMEI BOOT MEDIUM, find the image from external drive. CLICK AND AFTER 10 MIN YOUR DRIVE IS CLEAN CRISP AND READY (just like now install) but than in max 10 minutes... No fresh install can beat that time!!

Back to... Ehh. Ohh yes (after creating external Aomei image) install the latest stable AMD Catalyst WHQL version for your version (leaf Beta's). I think current whql is 14.4 Install the drivers.

NOW REBOOT AND RUN GAMES OR VALLEY......

Butttttt DO NOT INSTALL ANY GPU OC TOOL YET.!!!!!!!!!! YOU SHOULD NOW BE ABLE TO PLAY WITHOUT ANY ARTIFACTS RUNNING EVERYTHING STOCK i just redid it and that works.

Nothing wrong with that Matrix.. So please no dispare, no bad feelings or thrashing the GPU, ITS PURELY SOFTWARE RELATED. ON OTHER HAND, WHEN BENCHING VOOR TOP SCORES. ARTIFACTS become a part of you lol (but only at too high overclocks/bad cooling/to little Volt)

I hope this works m8!!

Believe me the Matrix is a beast. HEAVEN. XTREME : 4244 ON 1 GPU, 3DMARK11 OVER 17K SCORE. ETC ETC, 3DMark skydiver :33134 marks.

Thanks for the amazing write up. I don't think any of these apply to me though. This is a completely fresh install of Windows. I reinstalled Windows when I got the card back from Asus. I did confirm that AMD OverDrive was disabled and I have not overclocked anything. Well aside from upping the voltages to see if that got rid of the artifacts.

Because I rather just reinstall Windows then fight drivers, I've actually reinstalled Windows several times. If it's a driver problem then it's a problem within the driver and not how it's installed. The fact that it needs more volts just to operate normally tells me there has to be something wrong with this card. I'm no expert on hardware though so if you see something wrong with how I'm viewing this, any help would be appreciated.

Try with bigger wattage PSU
