Asus 7950 DCUII TOP - driver help please

Hi all.

I got an Asus 7950 DCUII TOP today. I have an issue in that when I download (or run off the disc) the catalyst drivers for the card it says it has installed and needs to reboot. However when it reboots the screen just freezes on the Windows Starting splash screen.

At the moment in the device manager the VGA is just listed as 'standard VGA graphics adaptor'.

My windows is all up to date. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

Thanks.

It is always best practice to use the drivers provided by AMD/NVIDIA's official support website.

If the new driver still wont work then please try installing while the PC is in Safe Mode.

The thing is, when I install the driver, it works. I look in the device manager and it is listed as 7950 etc,. But, when I reboot the system to finish the installation it freezes on the splash screen.

The only thing I am wondering is that I have the PCI cable from my PSU plug into one port and the molex cable that came with the kit in the other. Does it matter which cable goes in which port (if that makes sense?) I am getting green lights on the graphics card so am presuming its right.

Your power supply connections should be fine.

Again, please try using the latest driver provided on AMD's website. If the problem persists you can try running 'Driver Sweeper' and also disabling unnecesary programs from starting with Windows using the MSCONFIG command (possibly a background program is conflicting with the installer).

Hi.

Thanks for the advice.

What I finally did was make sure that there was no previous remnants of an AMD Catalyst install on the PC. I then installed JUST the AMD drivers file, not the rest. This has worked. So, as a guess, one of the other files that the catalyst wants to install when you just use the express install feature is conflicting with something I already have on my system.

Cheers for your help.
