AMD Radeon HD 7970 Video Card Overclocked to 1700MHz on LN2It looks like ASUS is having some fun with the AMD Radeon HD 7970 reference cards as they have a bunch of them on the test bench that are being overclocked right now using LN2. ASUS invited world famous overclockers Shamino and Andre Yang to join them in helping push the Radeon HD 7970 to the bleeding edge.
The dream team with the help of Liquid Nitrogen took the card up to 1700MHz on the core and 1980Mhz on the 3GB of GDDR5 Memory for a run on 3DMark Vantage and achieved a score of P54725 on the performance setting with one card. With the Radeon HD 7970 clocked at 1700MHz core and 2000MHz on the memory they hit P15063 on 3DMark11! Remember, the AMD Radeon HD 7970 reference core clock speed is just 925MHz! This is a 775MHz overclock from the stock speeds and that turns out being a massive 84% overclock!
These scores are amazing and show the the AMD Radeon HD 7970 does well in extreme overclocking scenarios. We talked with AMD on Friday and the AMD Radeon HD 7970 is still on track to launch on January 9th, but the Radeon HD 7950 has been pushed to the following month. You can't have it all at once it appears, but with scores like this we an wait!
