AMD Catalyst bug reports [Eyefinity / Crossfire]

Juanlo
Level 9

For all of you that don't know me, let me introduce myself. My name is Juanlo and I'm an AMD betatester (and I'm Spanish so apologies for my English). I do not work for AMD, I'm just an enthusiast user like you all, but I was chosen a few months ago to be in direct contact with AMD and help them by gathering info from the community about problems and driver bugs affecting AMD cards. After a happy ending of the system freezes on Radeon 79xx cards in Eyefinity & Crossfire with X79/X58 chipsets thread, several users there wanted to continue debugging problems with our computers and AMD Radeon cards, so this new thread is born.

The target of this thread is to gather info about problems and driver bugs you may find with AMD Radeon cards, focusing on multigpu and multidisplay configurations. There are other forums where gamers and AMD betatesters interact and help each other, but here at Republic of Gamers we are not common gamers. We are ultra-enthusiast users with passion for our gaming rigs and gaming in general, so we don't settle with single GPU or single monitor configurations.

So, how should you report driver bugs? As you may have guessed, the more info you provide, the better. If we want to get the maximum attention to our reports, they must be very thorough reports. So, do not forget to include:

- Rig details. Motherboard, chipset, CPU, RAM and OS. If you put that info on your signature, you don't need to include it with the post.
- Driver details. Post the driver version where you have found the problem. Please, always use the latest Catalyst driver available.
- Step by step guide to reproduce the problem.
- Screenshots if applicable. Please, do not embed the screenshot at the forum, just add a link to a image hosting website.
- Workarounds, if any. On the old thread, a user posted a problem that could be fixed by setting the game executable to Windows XP compatibility.
- Compare to single screen/single gpu. Does the problem go away when switching to single screen and/or single GPU mode?
- Video if applicable. You can't imagine how important a video of a problem can be. The amount of freeze videos I sent to AMD when debugging the X79 problem helped a lot to catch their attention. If they can see a step-by-step video of a driver bug, it will be faster. And it will be also faster for me. The more videos you record, the less videos I have to record, and the more bugs I will be able to replicate and send.

I will try to keep a record of the reported bugs and their status on the second post of this thread. If you have any suggestions to make the whole process better and more friendly for us, please let me know.

Good hunting folks!

- Rig details. ASUS Maximus VI Hero V.1301, i5-4670K stock speeds, ASUS R9290-DC2OC-4GD5 catalyst 13.251, Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB (2x4gb) 2133 XMP, Windows 8.1 64 bit, Crorsair ax760 PSU, Corsair H100i, Samsung 840 EVO 120gb SSD (OS), Western Digital Caviar Blue 1Tb HDD, ASUS VX238H-W monitor.
- Driver details. From ASUS SUpport Downloads-ATI Display Driver 13.251WHQL and VBIOS update for R9290-DC2OC-4GD5
- after launching a game- if the game is server based, the screen will hiccup and/or freeze on server selection screen. Windows alert will pop up with ...has stopped responding but has recovered. (im at work and dont remember exactly what it said at the moment, sorry. once the game has loaded (or if its a single player game) the screen will lock up/freeze about 30 sec to 1 minute in game. only way out is CTRL+ALT+DEL end program, or hard shutdown if that doesnt work.
- Workarounds, none that I am aware of.
- unfortunately, this is a brand new rig, and I have no other GPU to test.

To Do: I plan on using AMD's site and installing the Catalyst software suite 13.12 after I run driver sweeper. If that doesnt work, Ill will attempt the new 14.2 beta. Also thought of trying 2 seperate PCIe cables from PSU to GPU, as opposed to the 8-pin pcie to 6+2 & 6+2 cable the AX 760 came with.

Have tried: reinstalling drivers, reinstalling windows 8.1, disabling intel graphics, disabling AMD audio, uninstalling Google Chrome.

Hi,
Everything works great with 14.4 but either 14.6 or 14.8 causes flickers on the desktop and black screens. I have tried this in both win 7 64 and win8.1 64 recent install. I have a 144hz capable benq monitor attached by a duallink dvi cable. I have tried clean install methods. I have a 1200 watt psu running a single card X58 setup. Day I installed card experienced similar instability and 'fixed' it by updating the bios from the Asus support page for the 290x oc2 directcu card. Was weird that after bios flash the device name changed according to the post flash result notes. Now same asus flash utility won't run stating can't find bios file. Anyhow runs great on 14.4 but anything later kills it. Could it be the monitor?

Thanks.

I'm very happy because of this thread has finally appeared)

I'm using CF+Eyefinity for a really long time, previously with dual GPU cards (5970 and 6990) and now I'm on two 7970's.

Have nothing to report about CF+Eyefinity issues but maybe we could discuss some Eyefinity problems those are annoying us even with single GPU?

For example mouse cursor that disappears on one of three screens?

Or the thing that mist me off the most:
Every time I set up eyefinity configuration I've notice that the picture on one or two screens is shifting on some certain level. Looks like the picture is cut to 2 peaces and they aren't synchronized (I'm really sorry for my English is not good enough to figure that out, hope some picture will help)

Sorry for picture quality, it's hard to take the shot of this crap(

Does someone had faced this issue?

PS two my monitors are connected via miniDP->DVI adapters from VGA's box and the last one directly via DVI.

What size screens are you using Dartmaul?

All 3 are 1680*1050. 22inch.

I am facing an issue with Trifire 7950s and eyefinity on three DVI screens. I am using a Bizlink Active Adapter for both screens.

My resolution is 7680x1440 and the issue is as follows.

Even if the cards are non-OCed I am facing this issue.

The issue is that I am having crashes on multiple games when running eyefinity and when I run on a single screen smooth sailing for an hour then a crash occurs.

It follows the same trend as the ones I faced on my previous X58 system.

My current system is a 3770k/Samsung Green DDR3 16gb/Gigabyte Sniper 3 Mobo.

Previous to 12.11 Beta11 I never had these crashes.

The 12.11 beta 11 drivers haven't introduced any crash or system instability that I'm aware of. What kind of crashes are you getting king4x4? System freezes, crashes to desktop? Any error messages? Something at event viewer?

Crashes to desktop and especially on eyefinity.

I can fabricate the crash very easily if I run radeonpro or fraps.

Here's an even viewer log

I'll try to get some info about your crash. Are you using Windows 7 SP1 with the latest updates? Have you tried to reinstall the beta 11 driver cleaning previous driver installation?

Yup tried multiple configurations.

Reformated and had a fresh install of all drivers and only two games BF3 and Far Cry 3.

Still had that crash.
