850W rated PSU, good for how close to 850?

I have a pretty decent 850. it's the AX series by Corsair which is their Professional, I think their top tier.

My question is, since I have these two new r9 290x's, how close to the 850 mark should I be okay at? When I'm using a single card in a non crossfire supported game, i'm around 600W on my Belkin Watt monitor. that is with cpu almost maxed on all cores and 99-100% of GPU use.

Throw in that 2nd card, i'm afraid to see what happens. I ran Battlefield 4 earlier, but even on Ultra it doesnt max out the cards (NICE 🙂 so eventually a game will come along that will and i'm afraid i might need to get a 1000W. thoughts?

extra info: I have a FX-9370, it does suck a bit more watts than a 8350 or below. I am overclocked to 4816MHz. Multiplier only.

Please advise...

850W for two 290X and an FX-9370 won't be enough... specially if you will try to push the graphics cards too...

thanks for your quick response. I've been researching all night and am looking at the Corsair RM1000. It's a gaming PSU with a single 12v rail, (which i already have btw) 1000 would be plenty right?

I guess you're right. I'm playing World of Tanks right now, it's jusing a single core out of eight, and one GPU @ 60 percent, my watt meter is at ~600. there's NO way 850 could be enough with all three items maxed. I guess I didn't want to believe it 😞

i take that back, the lack of corsair advertising a single 12 volt rail for the rm1000 probably means it has 4 of them 😞

Got it today! RM1000 installed, yay! Right now idle with my Belkin Watt monitor i'm at 225W. Playing a single threaded CPU and single GPU game I get about 525-550. I haven't tested out battlefield 4 yet, with both GPUs and CPUs cooking. Will do soon. Thanks, 850 wouldn't have done it. Needed to hear it from someone else 🙂

:DYeah, that's more like it...good headroom. Let us know the dual GPU pull when you fire up BF4....multiplayer is heavy on all CPU cores and all GPUs...

ouch! using FurMark with CPU burner enabled 860Watts......... wow...... I'm glad I didn't try this 2 days ago.

These cards are so awesome, even BF4 doesn't max them out on Ultra. I'm VERY pleased with these Asus cards and this power supply 😄
