7970 Matrix Platinum - safe mode all the time

Hello,

I've run into an issue with my graphic card.
After building my pc, installing windows 8 and drivers my card was flashing green all the time. I discovered that it was connected to Asus EPU engine, what I described here: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?29501-Matrix-Platinum-EPU-Engine&country=&status=

Since then my card was doing perfect. Today I've opened my chassis, removed RAM to try it with different PC, installed it again and now my card is in constant safe mode (led indicator flashing green). GPU Tweak ask me each time after boot to "recover my graphic card" but after boot it's still green !

Please help ....

Can it be that something happened to my psu and now graphic card can't work normally ?
Should I try holding the safe button while pc is booting ? Flashing card's bios ? Resetting the motherboard's bios ?

I had this problem but I did find a solution after a while. One of my Matrix card was shutting down and went into sleepmode when Windows was in restmode. What I did was to go to Controlpanel/System/Energy and create a new schema. Choose high energy and then newer close window. Save and you are done

OK, so what you did was configuring windows never to go into sleep mode. Sounds more like bypassing the issue than resolving it 😞

You wrote that the issue concernes only one of your cards? So one of your MATRIX 7970 cards was going to safe mode after sleep and rest of them was recovering properly (blue led light)? I think it's a good hint as it means it's either the card or one of the mbo pcie ports...

Yes, you are right. This is just a software solution avoiding "purple haze". But then again, while listen to Jimi, It works until we find out another solution

Hi deply8,
I have been having the purple graphics card issue a while (it's really frustrating me) basically I have two Matrix HD 7970-p's and when I have
crossfire enabled my second card turns purple and is idle and remains idle when gaming, it's not a faulty card because I have swapped them and still the problem persists and its not the slot because I ran 1 graphics card in that slot and it worked fine. I have updated my bios to the latest and uninstalled catalyst and re-installed I really need someone to help because ASUS have been no help so far whatsoever.

Hi guys. So I had the same problem but I fixed it . Turning my pc of. f caused the card to go into safe mode.
Turns out my keyboard had voltages issues, so the card protected itself against this. I started plugging in and out all external hardware, untill it went safe mode at startup when I plugged in the keyboard. So thats what you could do.

Only dumb advice came from asus NL. Reinstall your drivers they said. Yeah cause divers initiate before I boot up. ....

Oh and black screen when first plugged in gtx 980 = update mobo bios

good luck.

Ps the bios reset did nothing via boot etc or could I get tweakit do move up or down

Thanks for the hint... I would like to try but I can't find this tool ... did you have in mind this one: https://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/MATRIXHD7970P3GD5/#support_Download_36 - under "Firmware" ?

I uninstalled all drivers with tool supplied by amd with -UNINSTALL ALL flag... also I removed all driver versions from device manager, then I fresh installed amd 13.1 drivers and GPU Tweak 2.3. No change in cards behavior. But I found something really weird. I turned ON everything connected with Intel Graphics in my BIOS (Asus V Maximus Formula) and connected monitor to DP on the back of the motherboard. My screen is black all the time... and the card is not visible in device manager independently from the bios settings..

EDIT: Yep, I've got it ! BLUE again :)))))))))))))))))))))))))
Thank you all for your help !
Solution for me was to connect one monitor to intel and another to amd. Then Windows showed Intel Graphics in device manager and I was able to install newest Intel drivers. After that GPU Tweak recovery worked like a charm !

I have had the same problem with safe mode. I just connect one monitor to motherboard and one monitor to Graphics card. Up dated driver for motherboard and now my card is out of safe mode. Thanks for your help

I've already updated the firmware just after I bought my card.
Almost all issues are gone... my card recovers normally and changes colors during gaming. Performance returned to as it was before my issues.
The only issue that remained is that when my pc goes into sleep then card goes into safe mode. Resetting and shutting down the computer works OK, only sleep mode causes problems - Windows8 ? EPU Engine is uninstalled and switched off in BIOS. Should I uninstall AI Suite II ?

EDIT: Uninstalling AI Suite II (from windows control panel + with tool from this forum) did not solve the issue.
Maybe the only right choice is to reinstall win8 .. is GPU Tweak working better with win7?
