7970 Matrix Platinum - safe mode all the time

Hello,

I've run into an issue with my graphic card.
After building my pc, installing windows 8 and drivers my card was flashing green all the time. I discovered that it was connected to Asus EPU engine, what I described here: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?29501-Matrix-Platinum-EPU-Engine&country=&status=

Since then my card was doing perfect. Today I've opened my chassis, removed RAM to try it with different PC, installed it again and now my card is in constant safe mode (led indicator flashing green). GPU Tweak ask me each time after boot to "recover my graphic card" but after boot it's still green !

Please help ....

Can it be that something happened to my psu and now graphic card can't work normally ?
Should I try holding the safe button while pc is booting ? Flashing card's bios ? Resetting the motherboard's bios ?

After clean install with only newest non-beta amd catalyst drivers, intel management engine, rapid and gpu tweak (2.3.5) it's still going to safe mode after computer is waking from sleep (reboot is OK). I don't know what's happening 😞

OK it's now for sure... it's my power suply unit TX850M. I've switched to GS800 and my pc started with card lighting blue without GPU Tweak recovery!

I need to return my psu to the manufacturer now ...

I was told seasonics are under rated, you can go 150 watts over you will just loose effecnecy

The issue returned. After replacing psu it woke up successfully from sleep (no safe mode) 2-3 times and now it's the same. Tried different ram. Many many things software related. powercfg -energy reports issues with bluetooth and usb, but I don't think it's the problem here.
I'll have to check how graphic card behaves in completely different pc setup 😕

I've noticed that when gpu tweak starts it speeds up the fan to 4400rpm , I have to click one of the profiles to apply it then it slows down to 900rpm in a moment !

Please help me people, I'm out of ideas.
Tried installing windows8 with uefi boot... it's still the same.
It's not the psu and not the memory, I've tried other parts and it's the same.
I've changed my cpu cooling and now temp are little lower... no changes in card's behaviour.
Tried connecting psu to both cpu eatx12v inputs.
Tried disconnecting motherboard from front panel. The same.
Downgraded maximus v bios with ez flash.
I've tried lot's of different driver versions, gpu tweak versions and windows sleep debugging with "powercfg".
It's hard to say if it's hardware or software issue.

What I've discovered yesterday is that my matrix will go to sleep and restore properly just after I play some game. The issue with safe mode only occures when pc goes to sleep when gpu is idle.

I've also noticed that when I disable 2d clock in GPU Tweak my GPU clock and memory clock goes up to max value in Gpu Tweak Monitor. It also raises GPU Voltage and VDDCI,mV to max values and the card is able to sleep and wake up properly with Disable 2d, but still goes into safe mode if sleep time is long, or when I turn on and off my psu (when powered off)!!

Is this normal ??
What should I do next? Should I measure voltage directly on my GPU with a wattmeter when going to sleep and waking up?

I'm also having some CCC / ACE errors. Log below

Can you write something more about your pc? MBO, GPUs etc... ? And again, you have more MATRIX 7970 cards and issue only concernes one of them ?

edit: I've updated mvf bios to 1707, issue still exists

OK, I had a chance to try my gpu in completely different PC.

800W psu,
Gigabyte Z77-ds3h mbo
and i5

... and it's working normally.
When I power it on, for the first time after turning on the psu, it's starting with blue led light. In my pc it's green after first boot...

It means my matrix is OK! But still I have no idea what's causing the issue ... maybe I should create another thread under Maximus' forum...
Maybe Maximus V Formula MBO is so powerthirst, 850W is not enough even with one MATRIX GPU !

czeslaw....in my case I know it's one of my Matrix card that is faulty. It is working perfectly fine until I leave the computer and windows fall into sleep. Then no matter what I do, it will never wake up. It is then turning purple (hehe...purple haze as I said before) and can't be waken. It is just this one specific card. The other card just works perfectly. It doesn't matter what mobo or pci-e slot I put it in, it's just the same with this card. There is probably somehing wrong with it but I don't know what. My workaround works but it's the only solution I can come up with for now

OK so it's a bit different case than mine ... My card is recovering from sleep mode but with green led color. Also it sometimes turnes green after reboot and always when cold booting (after psu was turned off and on).

I tried testing it (once again) outside my case and with other 800W PSU. I thought that it can be a shortage of some kind. I was also inspired by some thread about MVF having issues with it's WiFi+BT combo creating shotages with case when using "L" shaped mounting. I was testing to see if I can start my PC (without anything connected but CPU, memory and GPU) with green MATRIX indicator led light. I discovered that sometimes after resetting bios (battery removal) MATRIX started with blue light and sometimes in safe mode

edit: I'm not sure but it looks more like issue with my motherboard 😞
