X870E Strix E USB Stopped working.

Hello there.

I am getting kinda annoyed about my X870E Strix E.

Since less than a week i think, 2 of the USB Port stopped working out of nowhere.

How it started :

So i thought the mic finally died on me, since it's pretty old now.

I have been using it last week so i know it was atleast working last week.

But this morning my microphone (Old Blue yeti) was plugged in and thelight on, but invisible on Ghub.

Thought the mic died on me so i went to unplug it, just to doublecheck, i plugged it in another port.

And to my surprise the mic is detected and working !

So i proceed to check different USB port on my MB with different peripherals.

2 of them are not working, creating an error 43 in device manager, on the same device.

Saying the device reinitialisation as failed.

The ports got current in since the microphone as it's light on, but no plugging "bip" sound and error 43.

My bios ver is 1203, using a Ryzen 7 9800X3D.

I tried up update the USB firmware, all of them, no succes, also the UCM driver is updated.

Those 2 ports have stopped working out of nowhere for no reason, while they were working since the begining.

Add to that i had to play around with the Ethernet port settings because, same thing, some day out of nowhere it started to have very random errors, mostly when downloading at high speed. Finally seems to be fixed but my X570 Strix E never had such problem in 4 years.

I start to completely lose trust in that motherboard, it's not reliable for very basics feature such as USB or Ethernet. Bit shamefull for a 500+€ motherboard to be unable to provide basic features.

Any of you having the same problem ? Did you managed to fix it ?

I've had this issue since day 1 with the board.  It most directly impacts me with a usb header used for the Lian-Li fan hub.  I know immediately when its happening as all fans start at 100%.

The only way I've gotten around this is by killing power to pc when shutdown, meaning turning the switch on the back of the psu (back of my case is easily accessible).  Its a stupid solution but prevents the issues.

Lil update after deeper investigations :

The issue isn't hardware related, but software and on the windows side.

I used the IO mapping tool in the BIOS to investigate further and IN THE BIOS those USB ports are working.

I unplugged my keyboard and plugged it in the two ports that are not working on windows and they do work.

(btw yes plug / unplug the keyboard in the bios worked without reboot, neat thingy)

The keyboard is identified and working in the bios, but once i get on windows, they keyboard stopped working.

I have the same issue with USB stopped working had it on bios 1203 and also 1303. I will leave computer running over night come back in the morning and the usb will have stopped. I have also had a few blew screens just by pluging usb drive into port but that started with the latest bios 1303

Have you guys updated the USB controller firmware?

I would recommend to visit the support pages and install: ASUS LEGO IT8857GX V0203 Firmware Update Tool

While you're at it, you might as well grab the other firmware updates as well:

- ASMx424X_FWUpdateV40013_u424241022200011AcmAPDV5
- ASUS_2074FWUpg3003_230830150104_V5

Then last but not least make sure to update the ITE UCM Driver: ITE UCM DRIVER V1.3.8.17 for Windows 11.(WHQL)

And finally, there is a newer chipset driver package on the AMD website:

https://www.amd.com/en/support/downloads/drivers.html/chipsets/am5/x870.html

^ ASUS support site latest version of the chipset drivers is v7.01.08.129 and latest AMD version is v7.04.09.545.

FWIW, I have all of the above installed and zero USB issues. I hope this helps y'all as well 😀 .

As said in my first post yeah i did all of that already.

UCM drivers, USB firmware and yeah i am using the last update of the AMD, chipset driver too.

Also tried to revert the Bios to all default settings not helping.

The problem just randomly appeared...

No changes yet, i hope  a windows update will fix it caus ei don't want to réinstall my whole system for that fix.

I can see theres a new bios version, but it seems to be focusing on Dram issues, but nothing else.

Looks like this needs brought to the attention of some engineers at ASUS 😉
