If you have put an NVME ssd into M2_2 or M2_3, the PCIE slot will run at X8.  If that is not that case, you can force the PCIE slot to run at X16 in the BIOS by changing it to X16 from Auto.

no nvme drives installed in slots M2_2 or M2_3, have tried to force the PCIE slot to run at X16 but still reports x8. the only time it showed working at x16 was on the original bios.

When you flashed the 1003 BIOS, did you clear the cmos before hand?  Have you cleared the cmos afterwards?

Not before bios flash but have done after

ok so have since reflash the bios from 1003 down to 0706 (original bios was 0223) and pcie now reporting pcie 4.0 @ x16 as expected. not sure when i flash 1003 the gpu gets locked to pcie 4.0 @ x8.

just an update, i have tried a second motherboard and the same issue, flashing new bios limits pcie link width to x8. have also noticed one monitor flashing as if poor DP cable connected and screen tearing on desktop windows on all monitors connected. As a result i decided to return the 2x strix boards and now moved to another brand. Connected all same devices and boot with no issues and all working at correct speeds and no issues that i was having with the strix board. Sadly the strix didnt work out for me this time around.
