X870e-e Strix randomly sometimes wont turn on have to flip the switch on psu Or clear cmos

Hello everyone,

I recently upgraded my system to an ASUS ROG Strix X870E-E WiFi with a Ryzen 9 9800X3D and an RTX 4090. My PSU is a Corsair RM1000x (20201 model, in use for about 3 years).

The issue:

  • Occasionally the system will not power on when I press the case power button.
  • In this state, some USB devices still receive standby power (for example microphone RGB), but the LAN LEDs are off and the system does not respond.
  • Cycling the PSU switch (off → wait → on) usually fixes it.
  • In some cases, I also need to perform a Clear CMOS before it will start again.
  • Once the system is running, it is completely stable under gaming or stress loads.

What I have tried:

  • Latest BIOS already installed.
  • Reseated 24-pin and EPS connectors.
  • Tested with different AC cables and outlets.
  • ErP settings tested (Disabled, S5, S4+S5).
  • Clear CMOS helps temporarily, but the issue can return.

Questions:

  1. Has anyone else experienced this on the X870E-E or other X870 boards?
  2. Could this be related to ErP or embedded controller behavior?
  3. Or is this more likely a PSU 5V standby / Power Good timing issue that the board is sensitive to?

I would appreciate hearing if others have seen similar cold boot / startup problems and what worked as a permanent fix.

Thanks!

Try setting Power Supply Idle Control -> Typical Current Idle. That'll be in CPU Common Options.

Hello Pengan

Disabling fast startup can sometimes help with boot issues, be sure to click Save changes.
