USB only glitch stuck reconnects CROSSHAIR  X870E HERO

Hi

Any help would be appreciated ,  Experiencing  USB instability / stuck ports / devices which need a port restart to resume normal operational after power on or few minutes after power on.     Currently on BIOS 0706.

It happens with or without EXPO ... and even after full CMOS RESET etc...
It happens across all ports no matter where i attach the device (i.e even if attached to my 2080ti ! or to the MB bios usb port)...

It seems to be triggering some port/bus glitch where ONLY certain devices get stuck and need me to detach/attach or go into usbTree and choose PortRestart ....

Devices that trigger the issues and also get impacted/effected in prallel if attached ......
are my samsung s24 usbc ,  my steelseries 7+ USBc Dongle (even when using the normal usb cable extender that comes with it)   ,  AND the storage USB stick that comes in the Asus MotherBoard (drivers CD/pendrive)  itself apparently only when connected to a specific front panel port  though so this one could be a different issue still it causes the same out come  ...
Finally the Thermaltake  usb1.1   AIO round screen and the Thermltake 3.9" candy bar usb1.1 screen.  --> These are attached to the onboard usb5 headers of the HERO

Devices not impacted seem to be ... 1 Corsair HeadphoneRGB Stand  and my Logitiec Mouse/Keyboard usb RF dongle attached to it or ANYwhere else actually 🙂 .....  2 GameSir    USB 2.4G  wireless dongles  ....   (unless they simply are reconnecting automatically after the glitch occours so quickly i dont notice)

Workaround is to eventually use usbTree to reset port or physically reconnecting them at least once after power on after issue occours.
The system remains stable and no other anomalies noticed ...

Tried usb no power down/no power savings across all of them in device manager and power plans .... tried disconnected the usb5 headers from motherboard towards the Thermaltakes  USB1.1 screens .... tried  disconnecting two of the 4 usb3.0 headers between Case and Motherboard .... tried full cmos reset  , tried  both AMD and Asus chipset drivers ... tried disabling outright the USB4 ASMEDIA from AMD PBS bios ....

Can any one provide some insight / support ?

I plan to proceed  with the new chipset driver .... then give the beta bios a shot later after work today  https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/amd-600-series/x670-x870-resource-thread/td-p/901576/highlight/true/pa...

I am having the same exact nightmares with a X870e Strix. I tried pretty much everything I could find online...updated bios, amd drivers, asus firmwares....everything.....NZXT internal hub....usb directly on the motherboard / on the hub....removed every single device one at the time...used usbtreeview and usbdebug to "try to identity" the wrong device...nothing.

My symptoms are slightly different

1) I always get a usb not recognised error / pop-up at win11 boot, but no issues reported in device manager

2) When I am playing COD I start hearing plenty of sounds of usb connection/disconnections....

I just noticed I did install a thing called "asus usb wattage watcher" which I now disabled from boot and for the first time I haven't had issues at boot...I not sure if that could be it? (at this point I don't believe anything).

I have the feeling it must be related to the USB power though

i doubt its usb power watcher ... koz i had issue even before installing it ...

yes i think load/heavy cpu can cause it ..... are you running EXPO and negative PBO curve etc ?  or stock ?

Confirmed, I am still having issues without it but I am more certain mine is a related to CPU & USB Power as it happens consistenly everytime my 9800x3d reaches 100w (so briefly at win11 opening and while gaming)...every time it reaches that there a random USB drop which also explains why there are no permanent conflict / issues on device manager.

Another thread on reddit suggested to manually remove the option for the computer to switch off the device under properties of each USB device under device manager...I was hopefull for that but it didn't solve anything.

I am running stock, perhaps undervolting could be a solution? But I never done it and not sure where to start from

One more update - I managed to avoid the issues disconnecting half of my Lian-Li UNI TL LCD fans.

Simply put I don't think they have enough power when the CPU spikes, I'll try to buy another NZXT powered internal hub and split them across the 2 hubs to see if they managed to stay on

x870-f | 32gb ram | 4090 | 9800x3d | Win 11 24h2 | icue | I have had similar issues, at first the new PC was fine then at a point in time ( i suspect a driver update) all my USB devices would momentarily disconnect  (not long enough to cause the typical USB disconnect tone) more like they were being re-enumerated, i tried to work backwards and uninstall drivers, use restore points to try and find the point at which this started to happen. No joy, so fresh install of windows and try again, it was fine until a point in time again, tried restore points etc no joy again. Reinstall Windows again, fresh install no issues, paused all updates, did not load any drivers from ASUS that i didn't need, just the basics to get the system running, No issues, disconnected all unnecessary USB devices (icue etc, disabled on board igpu, sound card, wifi etc) , system has been running fine for two weeks without the dreaded USB 144 error, been running multiple sim racing games with no issues, I am convinced that this is related to some driver update that creates this issue, but not able identify, I am sure it will come back if I let updates resume...

It is always "us" with Sim Racing rigs who have these USB issues...I tried so many hubs, cables etc...now after these issues with the new PC I finally decided to pull the trigger...I cancelled my 5090 pre order and bought a full dedicated PC for the sim rig (with a 5080).

are you sure your issues are not usb power related? have a go at getting 1-2 powered internal USB hubs or disconnect a few devices at the time to see if you still have the same issues.

Update, have all my normal USB devices attached, Keyboard, Mouse, Fanatec DD, Pedals, WindSim, Flag Box and system is still working well. Have ICUE hub disconenced, Internal sound card disabled, using external sound card via USB instead. All MS updates paused. Not applied any ASUS updates. BIOS 0606. I am also backing C drive up to an external hard drive, so If the dreaded 144 error returns, I can go back to known point in time as restore points do not seem to be very reliable.

Considering updating to the lastest BIOS soon.

I have the same problem, every time I shut down the computer and turn it back on, it doesn't start my keyboard in Windows. I've tried changing the port or trying a different keyboard without any difference. If I restart when I have the option to do so, the mouse works, and the keyboard works. Every time I restart the computer, it sometimes throws my fans (USB) for my AIO cooler for a second, as it almost stops the fans and then starts them up again. It seems to me that sometimes it throws something else, as the sound in Windows that comes when you plug in a USB device comes out of the blue in Windows... I've updated the bios and almost nothing has happened to the computer, including fans and the like.

hello plug the 8 pin pcie socket next to the 24 pin socket and it should work

I think I've found a solution. I disabled fast boot in Windows 11, and it appears to resolve the issue. I'll get back to later
