Strix X870E-E network disconnects

ROG STRIX X870E-E GAMING WIFI

Win10 LTSC 2021 Realtek lan driver

I'm getting constant network disruptions with the onboard Realtek 5gb port. At first I thought I was going crazy with downloads failing and streaming video being very choppy. Software that has a persistent online connection is constantly throwing network errors. So I ran some extended ping tests and it's dropping packets like crazy. Here's an example of pinging google.com for instance.

Ping statistics for 172.217.4.78:
Packets: Sent = 535, Received = 445, Lost = 90 (16% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 42ms, Maximum = 45ms, Average = 42ms

I switched to a USBC to Ethernet cable that has a Realtek adapter built into the cable and it has no issues at all using the same network drop.

I've tried updating the Realtek driver, turning off power saving features, manually forcing 1gb link speed. Nothing seems to have any impact.

Really disappointed in this $720 CAD motherboard. 5gb ethernet sounded great for future use, but if it can't maintain a connection it's worthless.

After digging through as many forum posts as I could find I eventually found this tip on page 10 of a 16 page thread from a few months ago.

Disabling EEE seems to have solved it.
