I've had a number of Asus motherboards (Dark Hero, X99, Maximus IV Extreme, and others) where I frequently updated the bios. From what I remember, the bios update process ALWAYS had a progress bar so one would know when it was finished. It would then reboot.
My x870e-e seems to be different from past bios updating experiences. Since getting this board, I've updated from 409->804->1003->1104->1203. I think I've only seen the progress bar once, maybe twice during bios updates. When there is no progress bar, I don't know what's going on (all sorts of Q-codes, Q-codes get stuck for what seems like 30-45 seconds and then goes on, screen "flickering", maybe some reboots) or how how long it will take. I think the update takes about 5 minutes. Twice after at least 5 minutes the system appears to hang (don't remember "stuck Q-code") with no reboot. At that point, although risky but I'll force a reboot and get into the bios. I see the correct bios and no issues getting into Windows. Bottomline I've not experienced any adverse effect after what I think is a stuck but successful bios update.
Would like to know what others experience? Do you always see a progress bar? If not, does the process seem to get stuck on a Q-code? How do you know the bios update is finished?

One additional question that could help me. What is right way to do a bios update. Do you first load optimized default settings? Do you always Clr CMOS before an update? With previous motherboards, I never cleared CMOS before an update. Also sometimes I would forget to load optimized defaults. The board would just go through an extra reboot (believe it was loading the defaults) and then go through the bios update. These boards seemed robust enough to handle this. Just not sure what's going on with the x870e-e board.

Hi,
For me it shows a progress barr every BIOS update. Did u do a DEFAULT SETTINGS prior to UPDATE to a newer B IOS version?
Hope this answer helps.

I want to say I always do optimized defaults before the update but it’s possible I missed one time. However I absolutely loaded the defaults before going to 1203. It was this strange behavior, once again, that prompted my note. At least I now know it shouldn’t be happening. With the next bios update, I’ll video record what the PC does. Anyway so far no harm. Thanks for replying!
