I'd like to add a question:

Can anyone confirm whether AGESA has been updated to the "c" version now?

According to this newsbit from April 25(!)...

https://wccftech.com/amd-agesa-1-2-0-3c-bios-ryzen-9000-vulnerability-am5-platform-msi-first-to-roll...

... other mainboard vendors like MSI have started rolling out AGESA 1.2.0.3c over two weeks ago.

I was a little surprised that BIOS 1303 did not include this new AGESA version. We're still stuck on 1.2.0.3a. So what about 1401? Did they just forget to mention it in the update notes?

If not then I'm gonna hold off for version 15xx as I'm not affected by memory voltage issues (as far as I can tell at least). It shouldn't take too long before we get yet another BIOS update with the new AGESA version if 1401 does not include it.

It isn't like there is a known microcode security issue or anything like that.  I know the CVE-2024-36347 is to do with a local admin access which does not affect me (I am the sole user)...  It still points to a lack of action and inability to provide the proper protection to ALL users.

As understanding as I can be about the challenges of writing BIOS and maintaining stability, I struggle to accept how Asus can release twice as many BIOS versions than MSI in the same period of time.  Asus still cannot include a security patch it likely knew about ahead of time to prepare a BIOS with the new AGESA security patch.

It seems to me that Asus is having internal problems with doing their part to support customers.  Clearly MSI is more on top of things and able to support their customers better.

1401 fixed the bug in 1303, and when your TCL goes too far for sth like 26, your soc voltage will be capped at 1.2v.

I've been testing this one for 2 days, and now experiencing memory instability again.

Consider rolling back to 1203, so far the most stable BIOS version for X870E-E.

I notice soc capping in 1303 for cl26, are you saying it's fixed in 1401 and there is no more capping?

It's still 1.2.0.3.a

Thanks! 😀

I will skip v1401 then until the new AGESA version becomes available. 64GB Kingston DDR5-6000/CL30 is rock solid here with v1303. No complaints.

😬  I am using 1303 with no noticeable issues.  I am not pushing an OC on the CPU and only using EXPO Enhanced with added DIMM voltage and SoC voltage.

To think we all paid to be a part of the R&D team...   It is not lost on me that this stuff can be complicated, I certainly cannot write a BIOS or a driver to save my life.  I struggle with my own signature (true story)!

I cannot help but wonder how MSI can maintain up-to-date AGESA in their BIOS, and Asus is not.  The X870E Carbon was at the top of my list when I was shopping for a mobo, but my budget made the decision to buy the E-Gaming.

I wonder if Asus is struggling to create a stable BIOS with what they have (it kinda seems that way).   Asus has released 10 BIOS versions in the time I have owned this mobo, while MSI has released 5 in the same time for their X870E Carbon.  With these X870E mobos being pretty new I understand the semi-regular release of new BIOS with DDR5 maturing with higher speeds and lower latencies, security updates, development of greater efficiency, etc....  But to release twice as many BIOS as MSI and still not be up-to-date with AGESA is something I struggle to reconcile with.

This X870E E-Gaming mobo is my first and last Asus product.

Hey. Sorry slightly off topic, I see you have tuned your Corsair RAM to CL26. Could you provide any info or links to how you did this?

I'm using BIOS 1401 without issue at the moment. Currenly running 6200mhz CL30 with 2x32gb CMP64GX5M2B6000Z30. Would CL26 3000mhz offer better performance?

You can change the memory timing within the BIOS.  I changed the CL to 26 and saved upon exit.  I am unsure of the performance differences between 6200 CL30 and 6000 CL28 (my kit is CMH32GX5M2B6000Z28 @ 6000 CL28).  IMHO, we will be splitting hairs and you should go with what works and/or aligns with a budget.

When I changed the CL to 26 (with my Buildzoid timings) and tested on a DIMM benchmark, my score was significantly higher...  But with no noticeable performance boost that I found valuable, just 1-1.5 seconds faster on boot.  Through my experience, I found adjusting memory timings should be done in stages and with care.

I have recently started over with my BIOS settings because I experienced the OS freezing and after making so many adjustments I didn't know what caused it...  Do not be afraid to tinker!  Explore your curiosities.  Save a baseline BIOS on the mobo and a USB stick so that you can revert to something you know worked fine.
