I recently setup a new SFF PC using the B850-I ITX motherboard and connected it to a set of Logitech Z5500 5.1 speakers via the 6-channel direct/3x3.5mm cables and having some audio problems with the Line-Out only.
I have the settings for 5.1 audio configured via the Realtek Audio console and that is all working as expected. Testing each speaker works as expected. The problem is, the Line-Out is doing something that makes the L/R sound awful/distorted. The test tones from Windows on L/R sound blown out and peaking. The rears/center sound fine. After scouring the internet, I think it might have to due with auto-impedance and overdriving the Line-Out output possibly. I tried to lower the "Amplify Level" to the lowest "Performance" setting in this Realtek console and that barely helps the problem and I cant find a way to disable this auto-impedance setting. It seems like the front panel audio (headphone) doesn't have the issue, but the headphone out port can't be switched as the line-out port for speakers unfortunately as far as I am aware.
I tried plugging and Sennheiser HD650 (300ohm) and Beyerdynamic DT770 (80ohm) into the line-out and don't see this "Impedance Sensing" changing its value at all and the issue persists through either headphone. I ended up turning my audio output in Windows to ~50% or lower and then volume up via speakers control itself and its alright but not a fix.
Is this a hardware issue? Should look at returning/replacing the motherboard (as I am still in Amazon's window for returns)? I have tried reinstall of Windows 11 completely, and am using the latest (the only available) driver from the support site: "Realtek Audio Driver V6.4.9600.2395 for Windows 11" with no changes.
Thanks,

Have you tried the latest drivers version 6.4.0.2406 WHQL from :

Yup, I originally found this forum based on that post actually. Same result unfortunately.

I've reported the exact same problem on a completely different motherboard - still looking for a solution, although the latest drivers seem to have made very slightly better:

I think I might have found something that proves my issue isn't hardware related. In the Realtek Audio Console, if I enable/turn on "Device advanced settings" > "Connector Settings" > "Disable front panel jack detection" and under "Main" > "Playback Devices" have Headphones checkbox selected, all the sudden audio sounds completely normal out the line-out port - no distortion at all and seems to work as expected. As soon as I set it to Speakers instead on the same screen (only having my green 3.5mm plugged in) the awful distortion occurs again. I think this means its software related specific to the Realtek Console (which I need in order remap ports to use 5.1)
So at least for now i have an option for headphones working properly, but no speakers.

Thanks for this extremely interesting finding, I would never have found it myself. I've repeated the steps you took and I got exactly the same results.
In my sound settings, I now have both "Speakers" and "Headphones" as playback devices. Both of them play sounds through my rear Line Out. The "Speakers" setting sounds the same as before (with distortion), but the "Headphones" setting does not have any distortion.
This is consistent with the behaviour I've experienced first hand from plugging headphones or speakers directly into the physical front headphone jack, and also what other people report i.e. that there is no distortion when using the front headphone jack. However, in this case, I obviously haven't actually plugged anything into the front jack at all. I can't figure out whether selecting the "Headphones" playback device was ever intended to output sound through the rear Line Out, or whether this is a bug that indicates there are deeper problems with the entire driver framework.
I notice that the "Headphones" tab in the Realtek Audio Console does not have the Impedance Sensing or Amplify Level information. This is probably not a coincidence - it feels like there is some bug with the way that these "features" work.

Just repeating here what I posted on the drivers thread:
Given that I haven't changed anything physical, I have no idea what this really means.
