G.Skill Trident Z5 XMP memory wtih Asus ROG Strix X870E-E

Greetings,

I am helping someone build a gaming PC using the Strix Z870E-E.  Having read reviews the G.SKill Trident Z5 6400 with CL32 was chosen for this AMD build and purchased a while ago.  As I looked at it though, this is the XMP version of the memory.  I read that the Z870E-E supports XMP, but is this going to create an issue or lose performance?

The specific part is  F5-6400J3239G16GA2-TZ5RK  DDR5-6400 CL32-39-39-102 1.40v.

Too late to return but if there is an issue will have to figure something out.  Don't want to slow down or create problems with this nice ROG build by trying to use memory that is not the best.

Thanks!

Hello BJBBJB

Your memory kit is designed for Intel motherboards. It might work, but likely not at its rated specs or with X.M.P.

For AMD motherboards, you should have gone with Trident Z5 Neo. You want memory that supports EXPO not X.M.P.

I was worried about that.   But then I read that the Z870E-E motherboard supported XMP for memory timing so I was hopeful?

You can always be hopeful.

Here are the ASUS motherboards on G.Skill's QVL for your memory.

Thanks. I am pretty careful about choosing my memory. Lesson learned for them.

I have also an xmp kit "gskill ddr5 PC5-48000-F5-6000J3238F16GX2-TZ5RS" and i was doubtful, but it works perfectly at the right speed and timing with docp (it's the one to load xmp profile on an AMD platform) settings. So maybe yours will too !

Thanks!  I was knee deep in RGB fans last night.😀  Can you daisy chain 4 fans (RGB, not power) on that motherboard?

The fan headers support up to 1 amp. You'll have to take a look at the specs of your fans and multiply the amperage x4.

Thanks.  The TR 120 specs do not disclose this.  The similar, but less beefy, TF120 says .28 Amps.  I assume the Tr120 is more and is so, tight or over.  I'll just use an Asus hub I have from the TaF12 p set for my TR120 reversible set.

Thanks again!

.28 amps would allow you to connect three fans to one fan header.

A hub would work well too.
