Freezing OS 🥶

I bought a 9950X3D on release day.

Lately my PC will freeze randomly.  I can be listening to music, at idle, gaming, installing Windows...  Suddenly it will freeze with no error code, dump file, nothing to go on to help diagnose things myself.

I had all the newest drivers and updates installed.  I have wiped all drives with Secure Erase and reinstalled Windows 11 with a USB...  Still crashes.  At this point I've reinstalled Windows twice in three days still experiencing freezes.  I have to hit the rest button in order to remedy things...

My RAM in on the QVL list.  My OC for the RAM and CPU are very modest and well within reason.  I'm not pushing for benchmarks.

I need help.  My brain has turned to mush trying to figure this out.  This freezing issue has brought me to my knees.  I've read online about 9950X3Ds causing similar issues.  I am suspect that there may be a bad batch, or just a bunch of bad 9950X3D CPUs.  Can anyone provide some clarity?

turn off the overclocking on the cpu and check to see if that has any difference. quite frankly unless you are benchmarking your system then any performance gains wont have any tangible difference , i recently upgraded to a 5080 yet all the benchmarks tell me that my gpu is still the slowest part of my system and im only running a 9800x3d!!

I think I needed someone to remind me of this.  I am no longer smashing out benchmarks over and over...  I like to play games and record the shenanigans and I should focus on that.
I appreciate you chiming in and reminding me to just have fun!  ðŸ–¥ ðŸŽ®

Ive had this since latest bios 1028.cap installed yesterday.  freezing, no crashes, no minidumps for analysis

Same problem here. When I installed 1028, windows occasionally freezes

So....

After updating to the most recent BIOS for my mobo, I enabled EXPO enhanced and other quality life features like MCR, disabling onboard graphics, SoC voltage and slightly higher DIMM voltage.  I pretty much started from scratch.

I looked into both mobos (TUF B850M Wifi and X870 P Wifi).  It looks like you both have the similar BIOS (likely different than mine).   Have either of you OC'd the CPU or memory?  Even EXPO on any level?  Are you both running bone stock BIOS settings?

i hope everything turns out well for you, try not to personalise it too much until you definitely know its stable. mtfbwy

older Jan bios does not have the issue. I went back to Jan bios. I have 9800x3d and x870e hero. I tried all settings with last week bios and one version before, even with stock, it will freeze while idling. good job asus.

You should do PBO2 CO per core by passing at least 10 rounds of corecycler Zen5 Komari to claim a stable OC.

Remember, something like -30 may be "reasonable" for most of your cores, but I'd say that for gold and silver ones, it should be -20 or even lower.

In my case, one of the preferred cores has a CO-11 on bios 1401.

My personal knowledge tells every major bios lead to different CO settings, there's no universal solution for this crap.

Go auto.

Trust me you need a lot more then that to be stable, way more most would give up before that and just not bother, especially if you gonna edge it.
