Simple question that seems impossible to get a "knowledgeable" explanation to.... Is it possible to use 2 PCIe Gen5 NVMe M.2 SSD's without degrading the PCIEX16_1 slot to x8? I've "RTFM" and honestly it's as clear as mud. It might as well have been written in Old Aramaic.

Hi...
It is stated in the manual on page 15 which slots share bandwidth, However if Asus tech support don't actually know then we the users
have to figure it out, which doesn't bode well...
Could you possibly use one of the pcie 4.0 m.2 slots ?

Not possible I'm afraid when the m.2_2 and m.2_3 slots (all pcie 5.0) are occupied pciex16-1 drops to x8 speed...
Hope this helps.....

I appreciate the response but it only confuses things further. I just had a chat with support and I was told that you can use M.2_1 and M.2_2 at the same time with no impact on PCIE16_1. That's my current setup and my 3080 is definitely running at x8. Asus really needs to clarify this in language that even a caveman can understand. They tout the gen5 capabilities but then obfuscate how it actually works. And no one at Asus seems to really understand it either which leaves the community to try and figure it out which inevitably leads to contradictory info.

Yeah, i'm aware of what the manual intimates. I needed clarification because a few videos on the Asus North America and ROG YouTube channels come across as saying you can use M.2_1/2 can both be used with no bifurcation of PCIEX16_1. After a 2nd chat with support it was reiterated that M.2_1 and M.2_2 could be used and keep PCIEX16_1 at x16.
I spent the morning testing afterwards and can verify that that response is wrong. Placing a 2nd PCIE 5 drive into M.2_2/3 drops PCIEX16_1 in x8 mode. It's disappointing but I'm honestly not surprised. M.2_4/5 can be used, which is what I have changed my configuration to, which of course runs the drive at PCIE 4 speeds.
Again, thanks for your responses.

Hi...
Just a shame Asus couldn't tell you the correct information,(it would of saved valuable time) I wouldn't want to leave up to 5% performance on the table by dropping pciex16_1 to x8, other thing I checked was Slimsas, this can only be used for pcie cards, as it doesn't support the sata protocol which is disappointing to say the least.....

I recently built a new system with the ASUS CROSSHAIR X870E HERO motherboard, and I’m facing some issues with display performance when accessing certain websites, including my own, zimalcooks. The site occasionally loads with a delay, and some elements don’t render properly. I’ve checked the GPU settings and drivers, but the issue persists. Has anyone else experienced similar display issues with this motherboard? Any suggestions on settings or optimizations for smoother browsing performance?

Your motherboard really shouldn't have any effect on web browsing unless there is something very, very, very wrong with it. And if that was the case, web browsing would be one of many issues you'd be seeing. Now, your CPU/GPU could cause the delays and rendering issues you mention. However, that's not likely either unless one or both are damaged/misconfigured. You should check your connection settings as well as running diagnostic tests on your CPU/GPU. https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/common-gpu-problems-how-to-fix/
Lastly, you should move this question to it's own post as it's not really related to this post and will probably get lost in the mix and not be seen by someone that's experiencing the same issues as you.
