Hello everyone,
I’m reaching out regarding the temperature of Chipset 1 (xHCI). This is the only sensor reading in HWINFO that stands out significantly, as it is much higher compared to all other sensors. When my system is idle, the temperature sits at around 96.3°C, and under load, it can even climb to 100°C.
I have checked the temperatures using HWInfo, Asus Armory Crate, and the BIOS. All of them show the same temperatures. However, in HWInfo it is listed as Chipset 1, while in the BIOS and Armory Crate it is referred to as Chipset 2.
The BIOS is updated to the latest version, 0606.
Here’s my setup:
• Motherboard: ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Hero
• CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
• GPU: RTX 4080
• Case: BeQuiet Light Base 900
• Cooling: A total of 10 fans:
• 3x 140mm on the side (intake)
• 3x 140mm at the bottom (intake)
• 1x 140mm at the rear (exhaust)
• 3x 140mm on the top-mounted AIO radiator (exhaust)
My questions are:
1. Are these temperatures concerning, or are they still within a normal range for this motherboard?
2. Is there anything I can do to lower these temperatures?
Since this is a relatively new and expensive motherboard, I want to ensure there’s no issue that could cause long-term damage.
Thank you so much in advance for taking the time to read this and offer your advice.
Wishing you all a great and relaxing weekend.
Best regards,
Chris

This is mine at idle. Yours are very high.

That’s what I thought. It almost seems like something might have been overlooked (thermal paste, pad, or something similar).
Well, I guess I’ll have to return the motherboard and start looking for an alternative. That’s a shame.
Thank you for your post

What CPU cooler do you have and is it seated correctly.
Try reapplying CPU thermal paste first.

How does the CPU cooler affect the chipset temperature? Especially considering that all the CPU temperatures are completely fine.

Sorry... had CPU my head not chip set. So, paste and cooler is not the issue.

I’ve returned it and switched to MSI. Asus’s quality control has dropped off too much. It was the same with my ROG Strix 4080. After almost a year, I experienced extremely high hotspot temperatures (105-110), and when I opened it up, I discovered that there was barely any thermal paste on the GPU.
It’s a shame. Maybe I’ll give Asus another chance in a few years.

That sucks having do that. My MB is fine.... touch wood.
So, you just swapped it over at the retail shop on the same day no hassles no waiting period?
My old Strix 3090, one of the fans started to wobble and touch the sides, but it was a day before my Strix 4090 arrived. Had it fix on warranty then sold it for $900.00.

I ordered the MSI board from the same retailer and returned the old board. The €200 difference was refunded to me. There were no issues.
They have a really good Customer Service.
I’m glad that you’re happy with your motherboard. If it hadn’t been for the chipset issue, I would have loved to keep the board as well. But taking apart a motherboardu that costs over €600 is not something I’m willing to do.
