BIOS 0804 (ASUS ROG STRIX 870E-E): Please share your experience

... or to put it in the words of @Nerdtastic who asked this question with regard to the 0706 BIOS:

So, uhhh, who is going first??

😄

I stayed away from 0706 due to reports of poor EXPO compatibility. A few people here reported that their EXPO profiles no longer worked as they did under BIOS version 0606.

Is 0804 improved in that regard? Is it as good and stable as version 0606?

Please feel free to share your findings 😀 .

870E-E Strix, 9800X3d, 2x 32Gb GSkill CL30, 3x M.2 (M.2_1, M.2_4, M.2_5 slots).  Came out the gates on 0804 - this thing is nothing but a pain.

Posted separately about Ethernet and USB issues - those appear resolved (36 hours of ethernet connectivity now, whereas was <5 mins every boot before).  But new issues just randomly appear almost every boot:

  • Started with 1 M2 drive, and added 2 more post Win 11 stability.  Since then I've had numerous issues....
  • Dimm A_2 didn't pick up on boot.  Reseated memory, cleared CMOS.  Worked for about 3 boots, then Dimm B_2 didn't pick up on boot.  Restarted and its been there since
  • Been running EXPO I, which shows in BIOS, but summary view now shows 4800 Mhz even though advanced BIOS tab and Win 11 show 6000
  • Used to boot with P-Code A0.  Now I get either code 40, 99 or AA - random as to which one appears once in Win 11.  Just cleared 99 my installing USB firmware again and unplugging all USB devices on boot.
  • New issue, O6 or 06 occurs on restart, pc hangs and loses one of the two dimms on forced restart
  • Armory Crate is a pain.  Board wouldn't go into stealth mode when powered down, but eventually got the shutdown and BIOS to stay in sync (BIOS settings continued to revert for some reason)

Might try and roll back to 0606 tomorrow night.  For today, need a break from the nonsense.

Edit: Added issue 06 which happens randomly on restarts, and when occuring drops one of the two dimms.  I did solve 99, and learned that 40 was likely occuring as I did not have the monitor connected, and AA appears to be a good thing.

i have  the x870e strix with 9800x3d and

CORSAIR Vengeance 32GB  DDR5 6000MHz CL30
installed a month ago
with bios 0706
i had an issue with 9800x3d IGPU on widows 11 i had to install my 4070TI to get a display  otherwise i only got the bios working  and the windows installation process.

in any case im using EXPO I with 6000hz , seem to be working fine.

should i update to 0804?

Hmm I never had issues with my EXPO profile... I will say thought that when first enabling it, the board looked like it wouldn't boot, but after waiting a very VERY LONG TIME.. lol .. i got a green light and finally booted with the correct expo profile with my ram at 6000mhz and the right timings. I am on 0706 currently, but i did my expo profile while on 0606... and now i am thinking of moving to 0803 wish they would elaborate more on just "Improve System Stability" ..

But ya, hopefully you guys can sort out your issues... I am using Kingston Beast DDR5 6000mhz - KF560C30BWEK2-64 - and ya my expo profiles definitely load, disabled i load in with 5600mhz

ASUS has released a new version 1001 beta BIOS for X870E-E. Has anyone tried it?

Just installed.  I was "mostly" ok on running Crosshair x870e hero on bios 0706, 7950x3d, 2x32gb Corsair CMP64GX5M2B6000Z30 @ 6000mhz using EXPO II (they're on the Asus QVL) and a Asus TUF 4080 OC Super.  I have the occasional "hard" crash (IE no BSOD just boom, reboot) 3-4 times a week.  Oddly, games... no issues at all.   The most common thing I was doing at crash??  YouTube, really.. Weird.  ROFL

The one thing I can 100% recreate on BIOS 0706 is a USB issue using my front USB-C to play a movie.  The USB would freeze, drive drops, and only reset the USB or reboot would fix.  That is no longer an issue on 1001 beta.

Too early to tell on my other 3-4 hard crashes.

join the club on USB issues ....  check my post here:
https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/amd-800-series/usb-only-glitch-stuck-reconnects-crosshair-x870e-hero

but as an initial promising hint .... double check in device manager ...  you might have amd usb GPIO  system devices ... on X870e hero i have 3 ... one of them was a different driver then the other 2 im not sure yet if thats correct or not as once i got that aligned .. then the USB ITC seem to have issues ....  BUT usb5   stopped glitching which was effecting my Thermaltake 3.9" lcd ...

Ok, I'm in the 1001 tests, the first thing to say is that it's a Beta. In my case 0804 worked fine, just with less performance than 0606. I've already installed it and I should mention that there is also a new AMD chipset driver that should be installed according to the recommendation. At the moment, Cinebench 23 with everything set to default reaches 35927 stable, that is, if I run the test several times it comes out like that, with 0804 it reached 36284 the first time and then below 35700. I'll keep testing.

Interesting.  Not yet, but willing to test it this week when I get some time.  I'm on 0804, and candidly is very frustrating.  I've been through 5+ installs of Windows since Friday.  Every time I get it near stable, well, something just randomly changes.

On this install, since installing Samsung Magician software I am dealing with an almost recurring "0d" p code on restarts, and my random write on three Samsung 990 Pro SSDs are operating much slower than advertised.  My SSDs are installed on M.2_1, M.2_4, and M.2_5.  Many variables here, and on one install had the random write at advertised speeds.  Thought I isolated it to Bitdefender, but back to average speeds.

GREAT TOPIC HERE ! Thank you guys for sharing results.

To add more statistics here & save somebody time, this is my BIOS version/overclocking experience for ROG STRIX X870-F GAMING WIFI with AMD Ryzen 9800X3D and Patriot Viper Xtreme 5 DDR5-8200 48 GB CL38 (PVX548G82C38K) memory and yes its not listed in motherboard memory suppord list:

- BIOS Version 0606 - I've updated to this ver. when got motherboard:
8200 @ DOCP 1/2/tweaked - no post
8000 @ DOCP 1/2/tweaked - post ok/win11 boot ok/aida bech ok/but OCCT memory test show errors
7800 @ DOCP 1/2/tweaked (screenshot below) - fully stable, OCCT cpu/cpu+mem/memtest shows no errors
7800_tw_1.49vddio.png

And ass pain time wasting tryouts:

- BIOS Version 0706:
All DOCP profiles - System DOEST NOT boot (memory failure) - until I set memory to JEDEC (5400mhz) - rolled back to 0606 - OK

- BIOS Version 0803:
WARNING - then updating to this bios updater saying its not possible to rollback to older version. I've hoped ASUS bring back memory overclocking capability & DOCP live and press enter. But NOT, All DOCP profiles - system DOEST NOT boot (memory failure) again - until I set memory to JEDEC (5400mhz) - rolled back to 0606 - thanks to FlashBack feature (this was only way to rollback).

For 2025/01/13 available Version 1001 Beta Version - I will not update until someone test it for memory overclocking and working DOCP.

Thanks,
S.

Bios 1001 working a-ok here...
