Any known issues with x870e Extreme?

I'm currently running an x870e Godlike, which I'm looking to replace with an Asus x870e Extreme. CPU is a 9950x3D, RAM is G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo, 64 GB, CL 30, F5-6000J3040G32GX2-TZ5NR

On the Godlike there's a common issue where a Gen5 NVME in M2_1 will randomly not post with the correct speed after a reboot / start (reason I'm switching)—is there anything similar with the Asus I should know about?

Also, should I reinstall Windows completely after switching motherboards, or is there an easier way where I can just uninstall whatever MSI installed? I'm already running Armoury Crate and will uninstall MSI Center since the Godlike is all I have from them.

Thanks for your answers in advance.

Two weeks ago I was solving exactly the same problem - returning Godlike and buying X870E Extreme (I had to wait a week, since it is difficult to get this motherboard). But to answer your question - I have no problem with this board - except for one thing that I will mention at the end.

NVMe Gen5 (Samsung 9100 Pro) works as it should, I have it in slot M2_1, the other two disks are Gen4 (990 Pro), and they are in DIMM. I have similar RAM, only I have 96GB (F5-6000J2836F48GX2-TZ5NR), Expo I is enabled in BIOS. I have the same CPU as you.

And now to what interests you the most. I had to flash the board with the latest firmware to get thru POST. After installation, everything worked perfectly fine. But after installing Armoury Crate I sobered up a bit - 3x BSOD in one hour made me a little bit nervous. So I uninstalled AC - and it only bothers me because of the LCD on the board, now I have to have the default settings and I can't use the extended monitoring. RGB on the fans doesn't bother me, I have 11 fans in the icue link hub (or 13 in total with the AIO). If you don't mind using it without Armoury Crate, then you'll be fine. Unlike Godlike, you won't have any unpleasant surprises (except AC 🙃).

Thanks for your response!

Actually, not being able to run AC anymore would be a dealbreaker for me—the majority of my components are from Asus. Is this a widespread issue that many users have and something Asus is actively working on?

Btw, did you reinstall Windows, or did you just uninstall the Godlike drivers and install AC?

I did a clean install. I use AC on an Acer laptop (because of Falchion keyboard) and I've never had any problems with AC there.

There are several threads on the forum about AC, try reading them to make up your mind - in addition to the mentioned BSODs, the event viewer also reported errors with backgroundTaskHost.exe after every reboot (or shutdown of the PC). But the BSODs were the ones that bothered me the most. Whether this will ever be solved with an update, it's hard to say (similar to DD3 on Godlike).

I see that there is also a thread on the forum about a 5" LCD, but I've never had such a problem.

I've not had any severe issues with AC in years, I think the software has actually come a long way and I strongly prefer it over MSI Center.

I saw the thread about people having issues with the LCD, but I haven't seen anything about BSODs. I'm wondering if the BSODs you experienced were related to the LCD as well.

Not sure now if I even want to install the motherboard or just return it and get something else.

I installed the Extreme today. Do you by any chance have a link for a BIOS settings guide? I've enabled PBO, set EXPO I, disabled SVM--is there anything else I should do? Pretty new to AMD still, and I'm not sure I've enabled PBO correctly.

I have done pretty much the same - I have also set "Platform thermal throttle ctrl" to 85 C. I tried to set PBO at AMD Overclocking with hese values before: PBO - Advanced, PBO Limits - Motherboard, PBO Scalar ctrl - Manual, PBO Scalar - 10x, CPU Boost clock override - Enabled (positive), MAX CPU Boost clock override (+) - 50, Curve optimizer - PER CCD & CCDO -25 & CCD1 -20. It was stable, but at the end I was afraid of Scalar 10x so I just enabled PBO and set thermal throttle and that's it. When I am back from vacation I want to play with Curve shaper, but didn't have enough time for testing since I got this mobo.

Yesterday I was bored a little bit so I tried AC again mainly because I got another 2 BSOD without AC beeing installed (I found out it was caused by AdGuard's WFP driver so it's all fine now :).

I am one of the ones experiencing the LCD issue.  I do have to say that is the only thing that I have had an issue with .  I have not had the AC issue.  Only thing that I have had issue with is that LCD.  Otherwise it is an awesome mobo

That is good to know—I can deal with the LCD issue until Asus finally uploads the Firmware, but I would not want to get any BSODs.

I assume you are not experiencing any crashes with the motherboard?

Built a knew system 3 weeks ago... X870E Crosshair Extreme + 9950X3D.  Before installing anything booted to bios and flashed the 1605 update.  rebooted twice back into bios ensured MB BIOS defaults were set, then loaded windows and updated it thouroughly, checked asus driver hub and updated driveres there. Lastly installed AC and went through its update process (I used the AC installer that is on the driver page for the MOBO.) after AC was done with its updates i install the playground and assistant features and have had not problems controlling the LCD.  I'm not sure if it was the order of installation or just dumb luck but mine is working as advertised.  AC can be a pain sometimes depending on when you install it in the process, and when you remove it with its uninstaller it leaves files behind with the same broken config.  I now use revo uninstaller to remove it, it does a clean uninstall and deletes the reg entries for it.  has fixed problems for me several times.
