Advise with issues on a new system: Ryzen 9900x and Asus X870p

Hey all,

I am back on AMD for the first time since having an Athlon XP 2200+ and am looking for some advise with my new system.

I have purchased a Ryzen 9900x, along with an Asus X870-P motherboard (updated to bios 1005) and 64GB of Corsair 6000MT/s RAM (supposedly EXPO).

I currently have two issues I would be grateful of getting some advise on:

Firstly:
I am unable to set either of the EXPO profiles and get the machine to post. This seems to be a known issue with Asus X870 boards: https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/overclocking-tweaking/problems-with-x870e-hero-motherboard-and-expo-pr...
I was wondering if anyone had any tips to get the RAM to work at or close to the advertised speed? I have tried 5600 and 5400 MT/s which also won’t post properly.

Secondly:
I am looking for a good guide on what voltages/settings I should be taking off of Auto to ensure the CPU is running close to stock and not being impacted by overly high settings from the motherboard? For reference, with everything on auto, I am seeing core voltages of 1.35V and a SOC voltage of 1.25V which seems a bit high given I haven’t changed anything and I have been online that anything over 1.2V for these CPUs can impact longevity. I am not interested in overclocking the CPU and would prefer to limit things a bit to prolong the life. With this in mind, should I disable PBO (does this stop it reaching its advertised boost clock of 5.6GHz)? Should I consider settings one of the ECO modes even?

One note is that I am using Linux so don’t have access to HWInfo or Ryzen master to get a clear picture of what the voltages are doing under load. Lm_sensors doesn’t seem to currently be able to read much from this chip.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

1) Check your RAM Kit Partnumber on compatibility List: https://www.asus.com/motherboards-components/motherboards/prime/prime-x870-p/helpdesk_qvl_memory?mod...

Recommended use of Modules listed on this list. Compatible Corsair 6000 MT RAM 64GB for this MB:

2) I have R9 9950x with a corsair 5600 RAM 4x 16GB with only expo 1 active (on a Rog Strix x870e-e Bios 1104). CPU konfig set all to auto, no OC enabled. I have Core Voltage between ~1,15 to ~1,25 v and soc voltage ~1,19v. No Problems so far i can see.

For detailed Voltage i have no expirence. I let it always set to auto, when i am not sure. 😉

Thanks for the response!

I updated the bios to version 1006 which was released at the end of February and now the EXPO profiles seem to be working fine.
