X670E-Plus Problem

KukKaBubBa
Level 7

I assembled this pc

MoBo AMD ASUS TUF GAMING X670E-PLUS AM5

RAM G. Skill Flare X5 DDR5 32GB (2x16) 6000MHz CL36 AMD EXPO

CPU Amd Ryzen 7 7700X 4.5GHz AM5

PSU 750W Be Quiet Pure Power 12M power supply

At first I had a lot of problems posting, I had to set many parameters to get it working properly  then it worked well. later I added 2 other identical ram banks to arrive at 4 x 16 Gb and posting problems started again after many reboot system went stable even if a bit slow posting (45s to get to the win10 login screen, twice as much as before but it's okay)

Unfortunately 20 days ago after reading about the vulnerability discovered on AMD CPUs I made an update of the mobo bios 3024 from EZ-Flash after resetting the factory parameters and something went wrong.

during the update of the bios the screen turned black and everything remained stuck for almost 1 hour, I could not help but turn off the PC and I trying to repeat the update of the bios with the ASUS Crashfree system (using the button on the back of the mobo) this time on reboot I arrived at the screen BIOS UPDATING DO NOT POWER OFF (or something like that) but after 1 second the PC restarted itlself on its own and never posted again.

Now if I cold boot the pc starts and turns on the RAM diagnostic LED Yellow Steady.

if I turn it off and on again in hot boot, the diagnostic red LED of CPU blinks once and then again Yellow Ram Led goes of steady and no way to arrive to the bios.

I did the following tests without getting any changes:

-clear cmos, with the jumper, removing the battery and all possible combinations

-flashed different versions of the bios with the Crashfree system, all seem to be successful but no results

-flashed latest bios without cpu and ram installed

-boot without cpu neither ram nor vga

-boot with cpu without ram and without vga

-boot with 1 ram bank by testing all the slots and all the ram banks

I also tested the CPU on an Asus A620m-Plus mobo with 1 bank of my ram but I don't get to the bios unfortunately this mobo has no diagnostic LEDs and the case speaker does not make any beep so I don't understand if the MoBo is working correctly and if so which anomaly it is detecting.

I have no clue about how to solve this problema.

Any help is welcome. Thanks in advance

Hello KukKaBubBa

The issue you're having is from adding another memory kit, combining memory kits is not recommended.

Do not mix memory kits.png

The problem persist even with 2 x 16 gb ram kit

and 1 x 16 Gb an so on

I hope I am wrong but it seems that the bios update fried the CPU memory controller.

a part from that I did not mixed anything

the 4 stick with 16gb ram are identical.

Updating the bios will not fry your cpu's memory controller.

Adding another kit of the same memory is combining memory kits, you're using two matched sets of memory instead of one.

The recommended configuration for two sticks of memory is slots A2-B2 (2nd and 4th slots from the cpu).

If you're having issues:

Shut down your pc and unplug the power supply cable, install one stick of memory in the A2 slot (2nd slot from the cpu).

Clear the cmos using a metal object such as a screwdriver or something similar.

Then try booting up your pc.

thank you for your help, I really appreciate it.

as mentioned in 1st post I did all the following test but the problem persist...

  • cleared cmos, with the jumper, removing the battery and all possible combinations of those 2 methods.
  • flashed different versions of the bios with the Crashfree system, all seemed to be successful but no results
  • re-flashed latest bios without cpu and ram installed
  • boot without cpu neither ram nor vga
  • boot with cpu without ram and without vga
  • boot with cpu + 1 ram bank  (I tested one by one each slot and each memory stick)

It sounds like there could be an issue with the cpu, since it doesn't boot in another motherboard.

You might want to contact AMD, they may want you to RMA the cpu.

Ok, thank you I will be able to test another cpu on both mobo next week after that I should be clear what has been damaged.

when I boot on both mobo the case speaker remain silent

can you confirm that this means that there is a cpu problem?
